The 25-year-old wide receiver is set to be a free agent after the 2025 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles are very predictably not picking up Jahan Dotson’s fifth-year option for the 2026 NFL season, according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
This development comes as no surprise since the Eagles were never going to fully guarantee a $16.8 million salary for a No. 3 wide receiver who had 269 yards and one touchdown in 21 games played last season.
Dotson will instead play out 2025 as the last year of his rookie contract. He’s currently set to be a free agent in March 2026.
Here’s what we previously wrote about Dotson’s outlook back in February:
OUTLOOK: Dotson is never going to be a target monster as long as A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are healthy. But there’s a lot of room between dominating targets and mostly being a total non-factor like Dotson was for most of 2024. There has to be a way to get him a little more involved. Perhaps Jalen Hurts and Dotson getting a full offseason together will help them build more chemistry and make the QB more willing to target his WR3. The Eagles will likely not pick up Dotson’s fifth-year option, thus making 2025 a contract year for him.
While we’re here, we should also note that the Eagles likely will not pick up Kenyon Green’s fifth-year option. If they did, they’d be guaranteeing him $16.7 million for 2026.
The real question is if the Eagles will pick up the fifth-year option for Jordan Davis prior to the May 2 deadline. If they do, that’ll be $12.9 million fully guaranteed to Davis in 2026.
