The former Viking is hanging it up

One of the top cornerbacks of this generation and a man who spent a couple of seasons recently with the Minnesota Vikings is officially hanging up the cleats.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that cornerback Patrick Peterson will be in Arizona on Monday to retire as a member of the team that drafted him, the Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona selected Peterson with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of LSU, and he spent his first ten NFL seasons with the Cardinals. From there, he signed a one-year deal with the Vikings during the 2021 offseason, and then signed another deal with the purple for the 2022 season.

Peterson appeared in 30 games for the Vikings in his two seasons with Minnesota, including all 17 games in 2022. He had six interceptions with the Vikings, including a 66-yard pick-six against the Chicago Bears in the 2021 regular season finale and a pair of interceptions in the Vikings’ wild overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in 2022, with the one he got in the end zone on the final play of the game sealing the win for Minnesota.

After his two seasons in Minnesota, Peterson finished his NFL career last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was second among active NFL players in interceptions at the time of his retirement, with his 36 interceptions trailing only his former teammate in Minnesota, Harrison Smith, in that category.

Congratulations to Patrick Peterson on his retirement from the NFL, and thanks for a couple of great years for the Vikings.
