The list of Detroit Lions pre-draft visits is starting to fill up. Which prospect are you most excited about?
As we approach two weeks until the draft, the list of prospects making visits to the Detroit Lions is starting to fill up. This includes everything from day one prospects to local guys who have undrafted free agent prospects. You can track all of the Lions’ known pre-draft prospect visits here.
Question of the day: Which prospect’s pre-draft visit are you most excited about?
My answer: this is admittedly a bit of a homer answer, but I’m glad to see Michigan EDGE Josaiah Stewart on the list. Stewart is still relatively young at 21 years old and had four very productive seasons from the moment he stepped into his freshman campus.
He started at Coastal Carolina, accumulating 16 sacks over two seasons before transferring to play on a bigger stage in Ann Arbor. He kept up the pace, with 14 sacks and 71 tackles in his two seasons with the Wolverines. He really emerged down the stretch in his senior season, and he seems to have the clutch gene we’ve seen out of some Lions pass rushers like Al-Quadin Muhammad.
I love that Stewart was productive since his freshman year and that he maintained an upwards trajectory against stronger competition at Michigan. He’s still young and undersized, with ESPN having his weight at 245 pounds. The Lions can mold him into a complete pass rusher opposite his fellow Michigan alumnus Aidan Hutchinson.
Admittedly that would take time, and the Lions could use some pass rush help earlier than later, so Stewart’s name doesn’t preclude the Lions from having interest in another pass rusher earlier on in the draft. We’ll see how things shake out come end of April, but I’m glad to see the Lions showing interest in Stewart.
