The Rams might want the best interior DL in the NFL if they draft Shemar Turner
Just when you thought the L.A. Rams defensive line could never be as good as it was when they had Aaron Donald, the team has scheduled a top-30 visit with yet another standout defensive tackle in the draft. The team reportedly has a meeting schedule with Shemar Turner of Texas A&M, a defensive tackle who has been compared to Pro Bowler Nnamdi Madubuike.
In one of the deepest defensive tackle classes of recent memory, Turner’s been ranked as the 10th-best of the class by NFLMockDraftDatabase. Normally that might not be so impressive, but in this group it still makes Turner a top-100 player and a player who could go as early as the late second round.

The Rams do not have a second round pick, but do have two picks in the third round and might even trade back from 26 to increase their capital on day two.
Turner is a 6’3, 290 lbs ball of muscle who had 36 tackles and 2 sacks in 2024. Here is Zierlein’s description:
Three-year starter with “tweener” measurables but excellent musculation and lean mass. Turner plays with unlimited activity and a heavy dose of violence. He has a quick first step and an explosive punch. He’s capable of holding the point against single blocks or working the gaps with foot quickness. His pressure rate is hurt by a lack of length but he’s a restless rusher who hunts blockers’ edges and will eventually leak through if the play extends. His athleticism and chase quickness will see him in or near the pile with some frequency as a future starter.
He had six penalties in 2024 and said to need to control his temper.
Turner will not be the 10 to 12 sack monster that the Rams used to have at defensive tackle, but imagine this defense adding another grenade next to Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske. This could be the best defensive tackle group in the NFL, if not at least having the potential to be one day.
Kobie Turner and Fiske combined for 16.5 sacks in 2024. The team also signed Poona Ford to a three-year deal in the offseason.
Should Shemar Turner be a third round pick for the Rams?
