And thank goodness for that
One of the most consistently annoying storylines we’ve seen this offseason is the greater NFL media trying to wishcast Aaron Rodgers to the Minnesota Vikings. Yes, yes, we get the Packers to Jets to Vikings story arc and all that, but while the Vikings may have done their due diligence on Rodgers, it;s always seemed doubtful that they were ever really serious about the possibility of bringing him in.
The latest from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network should, hopefully, erase any remaining doubt. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today, Rapoport said the Vikings are now “as out as they could be right now” on Rodgers.
“I would say the Vikings are as out as they could be right now on Aaron Rodgers..
I’d be very surprised if he waited until after the draft..
I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t the Steelers but I haven’t been able to nail down if he’s for sure playing” ~ @RapSheet #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/orrGEjjikW

“I would say the Vikings are as out as they could be right now. Like, if Aaron is not signed by, like, August, and something terrible happens to either the Vikings or someone else, he would be the top guy available by a lot. . .I would be very surprised if Rodgers waited until after the Draft, I would be very surprised if it wasn’t the Steelers if he plays. But I have not been able to nail down is he absolutely, definitely playing.”
Hopefully, this will be the last time anyone has to mention the possibility of Aaron Rodgers finding his way to Minnesota. This is going to be J.J. McCarthy’s team as soon as possible, the front office and the head coach have spent the past few weeks making that abundantly clear, and there’s no reason to delay McCarthy’s ascension to the starting job, particularly for someone that’s 41 years old.
Here’s hoping that the next time we talk about the Vikings signing a quarterback, it will be someone who’s actually interested in being a mentor for McCarthy and someone who can actually add something in the locker room for a team that should have very high aspirations for the 2025 NFL season.
