Other Giant observations
Daniel Jones’ stunning ineptitude has made for a massive Giants mess | New York Post
Brian Baldinger on the Giants starting quarterback:
“I don’t want to use the term ‘shot fighter,’ I don’t want to say that, because that’s personal. But he didn’t look like an advanced quarterback that’s been in the league and can play with some awareness and anticipation. Even when he knew where to go with the ball he wasn’t putting it in the right place.
“This is the third year in the offense, there shouldn’t be a whole lot of thinking. He should know exactly what he’s looking at here and where to go with the ball and where the safety valves are. All that stuff should be second nature to him. He should be very comfortable and he didn’t look comfortable in this offense.’’

Giants Offensive Linemen Have Daniel Jones’s Back | SI.com
Offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr,, said no one on the team is giving up on Jones as the offense’s leader.
“Everybody here is rallying around Daniel,” Runyan said. “We’ve been seeing him this whole offseason. He’s been here this whole time. He’s been working really hard…He’s in there, he’s grinding. He’s in the weight room and he’s going to get this thing right. I know it and I think we all trust and believe that he will.”
Presser Points: Takeaways from Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com
Daboll was asked about the confidence level of quarterback Daniel Jones: “He’s someone that I talk to every day. We talk about the discipline to do things right on and off the field like he always does, having a positive attitude regardless of situation. It’s never easy when you lose a game, or you don’t play well, or you don’t coach well…Mental toughness is a real thing. Focus on the things that’s important, which is what his coaches are teaching him to do, how he goes out and practices with the right mindset.”
It’s on Brian Daboll to save NY Giants from QB drama with Daniel Jones | The Record
Here’s what it comes down to for the Giants: can Daboll save the franchise from this drama and figure out a way to get the best out of Jones to win some games? That responsibility falls on his shoulders, and based on what we saw Sunday, given the circumstances surrounding Jones’ level of play, it’s a significant ask – maybe even greater than winning three games last season with an undrafted rookie quarterback from Jersey.
Giants’ Isaiah Simmons Calls ‘Shocking’ Week 1 Benching ‘Frustrating as Hell’ | Bleacher Report
Simmons called his benching “shocking” and “confusing” while expressing his overall frustration with the situation.
“Hopefully they know what they’re doing more than I think I know what I’m doing,” he said. “So I’m just trusting the process and hopefully thinking things are best for the team. But personally, I love to be out there, s–t, every snap. I feel like there’s a lot of different ways I can help the guys.
Brian Burns on this weekend’s matchup
#Giants pass rusher Brian Burns (@Fire_Burns99) should have more than a few chances to disrupt Sunday’s game vs the #Commanders.

32 NFL observations after Week 1: Dexter Lawrence did his best to generate pressure | PFF
Luckily, the Vikings didn’t have to pass more. Dexter Lawrence was in fine form, winning 50% of his pass-rush snaps, the best score on the week.
Which 0-1 NFL teams should be worried? From Bengals to Giants and 14 others | The Athletic
Reaction: Worry. It’s going to be a long year. Daniel Jones completed just 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). Combining Sunday’s outing with last season’s six games, Jones has thrown just two touchdowns and eight interceptions since he signed that $140 million extension. It’ll be interesting to see how much longer Brian Daboll sticks with Jones before giving Drew Lock a shot. If that leash is long, the Giants very well could be looking at a last-place finish.
What we learned from New York Giants’ 28-6 loss to Minnesota Vikings | USAToday.com
The Giants spent most of the offseason telling us how they are going to be more dynamic on offense and throw the football down the field more.
We saw none of that in the opener. They took hardly any shots downfield and had just three receptions over 15 yards and none over 25 (rookie Malik Nabers has two 25-yard catches). Jalin Hyatt, the Giants’ fastest receiver and biggest deep threat, was targeted only once

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers, Giants use top-three picks to replace struggling QBs | CBSSports.com
No. 3. Miller Moss QB USC. Moss lands with another franchise likely (see: moving toward clearly) in need of a quarterback upgrade. He has the pocket tools to thrive in the NFL.

2. New York Giants: Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas. Whether this current regime is in place or not, a new quarterback is needed in New York. Quinn Ewers has been phenomenal through two games this season, showing improved footwork and consistency despite playing with a brand-new supporting cast. There’s no better pocket passer in the nation, and Ewers’ improved play under pressure is promising.
This week’s opponent
Commanders’ key to unlocking Jayden Daniels throwing deep may lie with RBs underneath | The Athletic
After Washington’s defense allowed the Buccaneers to gain nearly 400 yards of offense and score on seven of their eight full possessions, there were plenty of worthy topics. Tackling margin, penalty margin and starting field position are the other primary categories.
“I thought we were able to generate some pressure defensively, pass rush and some blitz,” Quinn said Sunday night. “What I wasn’t pleased with was our ability to finish on the (quarterback.) I thought we … let him outside the pocket where he could extend plays.”
Commanders’ defensive mistakes fixable, issues arent uncommon from past | Hogs Haven
This past Sunday, the Commanders secondary had its fair share of struggles against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There were some mistakes that Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield exploited and some opportunities that he missed. When the Buccaneers aligned in trips, bunched, or stacked formations, the coverage rules slowed players’ ability to play fast and pick up the right man according to their releases.
Practice notes | Jayden Daniels reflects on highs, and lows, of Week 1 | Commanders.com
“I grade myself hard,” Daniels said. “We didn’t win. I’m a competitor. I like to win, but overall it went well, pretty well. There’s some stuff that as an offense we left on the field. We have to execute better, but it’s a long season. We’re going to move on from this.”
