What a payday.

As is normal, a few days after the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to a massive contract extension with Ja’Marr Chase, we now have a full breakdown of the structure of the deal that keeps the dynamic wide receiver in Cincinnati for the next four years.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported the contract structure, shedding some light on how the guarantees will work moving forward.

Here are some of the contract details for Chase’s contract.

• $73.9 million fully guaranteed at signing—$41.17 million in base salary, a roster bonus, and per-game roster bonuses for 2025; and $32.73 million in base salary and a roster bonus for 2026. His two-year total is $75 million, with another $1.1 million in per-game roster bonuses for 2026 not fully guaranteed until next March.

• In March 2026, those roster bonuses, plus $28.9 million of his money for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed. His three-year total is $105 million, with $1.1 million of his $30 million for 2027 not fully guaranteed until March 2027.

• In March 2027, those roster bonuses, plus $7 million for 2028 become fully guaranteed, bringing the guarantee total, at that point, to $112 million.

The Bengals broke from their typical contract practices to keep Chase in Cincinnati. Historically, the Bengals have refused to guarantee money in contracts beyond the first year, save for Joe Burrow’s extension ahead of the 2023 season.

Breer’s breakdown also mentions that the extension includes a non-guaranteed $44.816 million in 2029, which is the final year of the contract. This means that in theory, the Bengals could get out of Chase’s contract after the 2028 season.

The chances of that are unlikely, though. We should expect to see Chase in stripes through at least the 2029 season and hopefully longer.

Whether Burrow forced the Bengals to change their ways or they did it on their own, it is nice to see them do whatever it takes to retain arguably the best receiver in all of football.
