After the injury to starting Cornerback JuJu Brents, the Colts have added a new Cornerback with a Zone heavy background to the fold.
Immediately after the knee injury to Brents, the Colts announced they added Kelvin Joseph to the practice squad. Joseph was drafted in the 2nd Round (44th Overall) in the 2021 draft by the Dallas Cowboys and was traded in 2023 to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for former 1st Round pick Noah Igbinoghene. He was eventually signed to the Seahawks practice squad mid 2023 season.
Over his 3 seasons in the NFL, the former Wildcat has in coverage allowed:
- 35 targets
- 21 catches
- 60% catch rate
- 316 yards
- 15 yards per reception
- 4 TDs
- 0 INTs
- 4 Pass Breakups
Joseph has given up a few big plays, including a 15 yard TD to Alec Pierce in 2022. However he has been a strong CB at the catch point to disrupt plays as well as being a reliable tackler (only 2 missed tackles in his career, 6.7% miss tackle rate) with a downhill edge of 10 stops. An experienced Zone corner in college and in pros, he forced 27% incompletions on Zone snaps in 2021 (2nd among rookies, 6th among all CBs), and was 35th/146 CBs in that same metric in 2022 as well.
Great play here from Kentucky CB, Kelvin Joseph. In cover 3, flips his hips, doesn’t break stride and comes down with the pick. pic.twitter.com/amGlh2lON1

Now Joseph will provide some depth to a shorthanded Colts CB group.
