Yes, we will take Fries with that

The Minnesota Vikings are continuing to patch their roster holes in free agency, once again raiding the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive line room for help on the interior.

A day after signing Ryan Kelly away from Indy, the Vikings have agreed to a huge five-year, $88 million deal with guard Will Fries, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Fries was considered by many to be the best available guard in this year’s free agent market after Kansas City placed the franchise tag on Trey Smith. He was drafted by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State, and took over as the starter at right guard for the Colts midway through the 2022 season. After starting all 17 games in 2023, Fries suffered a fractured tibia in October and was placed on injured reserve.

The 26-year-old Fries will now be a part of a rebuilt Vikings’ offensive line, and he’ll once again line up next to Kelly, only now he’ll have Brian O’Neill to his right.

The Vikings clearly had a mission to get stronger on both lines in free agency, and with the signings they’ve agreed to over the first couple of days of free agency, they appear to have accomplished that mission.

Welcome to Minnesota, Will Fries!
