After ending the 2024 season on the Vikings practice squad, Daniel Jones will now get the opportunity to compete for a starting job in 2025.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Jones plans to sign a one-year, $17.7 million deal to join the Indianapolis Colts. Per Perlissero, the Vikings were interested in keeping Jones in Minnesota, but the opportunity to earn a starting role and compete with Anthony Richardson in Indy was too good to pass up.

With the Colts, Jones will get to work with head coach Shane Steichen who has a history of elevating quarterback play in the past. As the offensive coordinator at one point for both the Chargers and Eagles, he oversaw Justin Herbert’s record-setting rookie season in 2020 and Jalen Hurts’ run to his first Super Bowl appearance in 2022.
Now that Jones is officially playing elsewhere in 2025, the Vikings will be able to focus full-steam ahead on J.J. McCarthy as the team’s starting quarterback.
