The hope is that the Bengals keep the Gesicki/Higgins/Chase trio for the foreseeable future.
Joe Burrow made it clear he wants his team to keep Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Trey Hendrickson, and Mike Gesicki.
Well, the front office took that last name very seriously.
How seriously?
By agreeing to a three-year, $25.5 million dollar deal with the veteran tight end, the front office made him the first Cincinnati Bengals player to receive a multi-year contract before the official start of free agency (the legal tampering period) since…Rey Maualuga back in 2015.
This, according to Bengals guru Joe Goodberry.
How significant is it that the Cincinnati Bengals agreed to an extension with tight end Mike Gesicki?
The LAST TIME they extended a player to a multi year deal before the Legal Tampering Period opened was 2015.

That means the team really wanted him back and was happy with the structure of the contract, which reportedly includes $12 million in year one.
In case you’re wondering how it worked out last time, Maualuga contributed to a great defense in 2015. Then his play dropped significantly in the second and third years of his contract, as he started just 10 combined games.
The Bengals are hoping the 29-year-old Gesicki—who had a bounce-back season in Cincinnati after coming from the New England Patriots last year—will fare better.
