Random Ramsdom: Should team consider Darius Slayton?

Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 3/8/25

Darius Slayton has not had the most consistent quarterback play during his time with the New York Giants, so maybe he would thrive with the Los Angeles Rams, but I am not convinced that the Rams need to add him.

If Les Snead and Sean McVay think Slayton is worth the add, then I say add him, but they just re-signed Tutu Atwell and I think they have other directions they can go that do not involve Slayton, but it’s an interesting thought.

Hopefully we’ll hear from you in the comments!

Thanks for checking out Turf Show Times and have a great Saturday!

Veteran Receiver Named Perfect Fit for Rams (si.com)

“Thus, in Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame’s NFL Free Agency 2025: One Good Fit for Every Team article, he states that the Rams should bring the former Auburn Tiger to the city of Angels in order to create a strong WR room for Matthew Stafford to exploit defenses with.

“With the Rams looking to move on from Cooper Kupp due to injury and age concerns, Slayton could be a nice fit alongside Puka Nacua.” Wrote Verderame. “Despite having lousy quarterback play with the New York Giants throughout his career, Slayton thrice eclipsed the 700-yard mark, including a personal-best 770 yards in 2023.”

Matthew Stafford reflects on ‘humbling’ interest from teams, ‘grown-up conversations’ with Sean McVay (ramswire)

“I was talking to Kelly the other day just about this process and how it can sometimes feel like such a negative,” he said on his wife’s podcast, “The Morning After”, via the New York Post. “It’s a tough thing, you’re going through all these things, but at the same time was talking to somebody and they kind of gave me the perspective of like, ‘Man, this is such a positive time in your life. You’re 37 years old going into your 17th season and somebody still wants you to be on their team,’” Stafford said in his first public comments since opting to remain with the Rams. “That’s a rare occurrence and something I don’t take for granted and take lightly.

“It’s still a humbling thing to have teams and, most importantly, the team I’m playing for in the Rams excited about me being a part of their team and leading the way. It’s a cool thing and hopefully we have a great season and get to figure it out again next year and continue to keep playing. We’ll see.”

49ers claim cornerback from the Rams off waivers (ninersnation)

“Tomlinson, a sixth-round pick of the Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft, didn’t see action in any games last season after playing in 15 games during his rookie year.

As a rookie, the cornerback was primarily used as a special-teamer, playing 78 percent of Los Angeles’s special teams snaps in 2023.

He was waived by the Rams on Wednesday and the 49ers pounced to claim him, adding a 5’9, 177-pound cornerback to the roster.”

Random Ramsdom Fandom: This year’s Cooper DeJean (By CDNGolfer on Mar 6, 2025)

“A couple of the things I loved about DeJean was his state record in track for the 100 and his Dawg mentality. Darien Porter has a state record in the 400 (that’s looong speed!) has 3 inches on DeJean at 6’3” and just ran a 4.3 forty at the combine. Dejeans fastest was his pro day with a 4.43. Another attribute of Porter’s is his academic ability, he’s smart and McSnead loves that.

Some stuff from Draft Buzz and I’ll get a highlight clip in the comments.

A former track star turned cornerback

One of college football’s premier special teams weapons with five career blocked kicks

Porter’s academic achievements include multiple Academic All-Big 12 honors

Natural ball tracking ability carried over from WR days

His elite combination of size and speed isn’t just workout warrior stuff – it shows up consistently when he’s asked to match up with bigger receivers or carry routes vertically.

The ceiling here is a legitimate starting corner who can match up with the NFL’s new breed of supersized receivers. His combination of length, speed and ball skills is exactly what teams are looking for on the outside in today’s game.”
