Bosa could be a bargain for a Bengals team that needs help on the edge.
The Cincinnati Bengals are currently in the thick of the most important offseason in franchise history.
Duke Tobin has stated that the Bengals are working to extend Tee Higgins (franchise-tagged), Ja’Marr Chase, and Trey Hendrickson, though the latter is likely leaving town after the team gave him permission to seek a trade.
On top of that, the Bengals have cut guys like Sheldon Rankins and Alex Cappa, increasing the team’s cap space.
Sam Hubbard also announced his retirement from the NFL after just seven seasons this morning, saving another $10 million in cap space.
With all of these moves, it is clear the front office is working to create as much space as possible to not only extend their guys but also bring in game changers in free agency as well.
This week, the Chargers released All-Pro defensive end Joey Bosa and saved over $25 million in cap space. Bosa is now free to join whichever team he would like, and this is a perfect opportunity for the Bengals to make a massive splash in free agency.
The Bengals have made the space and should heavily consider bringing in the five-time Pro Bowler. Bosa has stacked up injuries over the past few seasons, though, only lacing up for 28 games in the past three seasons, and has not posted double-digit sacks in a season since 2021.
With the injuries, the Bengals could be hesitant to bring in someone like Bosa, especially with the increasing need for speed on the edge in today’s NFL.
But his production does not lie when healthy, and he could be the absolute boost the Bengals’ pass rush needs this offseason at a bargain price.
