RE-SIGN Mike Gesicki!
I thought the Cincinnati Bengals had finally found their guy at tight end. Then Erick All tore my heart… and his ACL.
Does this pave the way for Mike Gesicki to be the guy the Bengals commit to in the long term?
Key Players
- Drew Sample
- Mike Gesicki
- Erick All (Will Miss 2025 Season)
- Tanner Hudson
- Cam Grandy
Year In Review
After the Irv Smith debacle a year ago, the Bengals found the best free agent tight end yet in Mike Gesicki. Okay, well tight end might be a bit of a stretch, but he is at least an excellent receiving threat. Drew Sample was their more traditional tight end and had one of his best seasons.
The Bengals doubled down in the draft, taking both Erick All and Tanner McLachlan. All looked extremely promising, but an injury ended his season a year early, and a botched surgery from college will cost him 2025 as well. McLachlan might be an urban legend. Seriously, has anyone ever seen him? Undrafted free agent Cam Grandy stepped up down the stretch, mostly as a blocker.
Potential Free Agents
- Mike Gesicki
- Tanner Hudson
What to Do Next?
RE-SIGN Mike Gesicki. That needs to be done. He belongs in this offense.
The devastating Erik All injury news means this is still a position of need.
Sample does his thing, and Gesicki does his, but they need someone who can do more than one thing. To do this, they might look back to the draft.
Otherwise, it may mean keeping four with Tanner Hudson and Cam Grandy rounding out the bottom.
As for Tanner McLachlan, I’ll believe it when I see it.
What I would do
RE-SIGN Mike Gesicki.
I’d consider a mid-round tight end option as well. They could always go back to the bountiful Iowa harvest where Luke Lachey seems to be getting overlooked.
