One-year deals were announced for Kion Smith and Cameron Goode on Wednesday.
The Miami Dolphins announced Wednesday that restricted free agents linebacker Cameron Goode and tackle Kion Smith were tendered for the 2025 NFL season.
Restricted free agents are players who’ve accrued fewer than four seasons of service in the league. Both Smith and Goode received qualifying offers—known as tenders—from Miami to remain with the team. These offers are determined by the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.
A 2021 undrafted free agent, Smith didn’t allow a sack while playing 70 snaps for the Dolphins in 2023. However, he missed the 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason.
Miami originally added Smith to the practice squad in September 2021, and he’ll enter 2025 with an opportunity to compete for a backup tackle position behind Austin Jackson and Patrick Paul.
Goode has appeared in 20 games over two seasons after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s logged five tackles and two quarterback hurries while playing 87 snaps over the last two years.
In Miami’s January 7, 2024, loss to the Buffalo Bills, Goode recorded two tackles before suffering a season-ending injury. Despite missing most of last season, he enters his third offseason with additional time to get healthy and the opportunity to carve out a role in the defense’s pass-rush rotation.
With free agency less than a week away, the Dolphins rank near the bottom of the league with just 49 players under contract. While plenty of roster changes are expected, keeping players like Goode and Smith helps maintain some continuity on the depth chart.
