The Linc – Howie Roseman compares winning Super Bowls to having sex

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/5/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Howie Roseman Dropped a Great Sex Analogy for Winning Multiple Super Bowls – Crossing Broad
Howie Roseman dropped an all-time analogy to describe winning his second Super Bowl on Todd McShay’s Show: “The first one is almost like having sex for the first time. You’re just so happy you had sex, it’s not even the quality of it. The second time it’s like I can almost have fun and enjoy this.”

Dear Patriots fans, stop pretending like the Eagles are trading A.J. Brown – BGN
Let’s nip these dumb ‘A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots?!’ trade “rumors” in the bud right now. It’s not happening. The Philadelphia Eagles are not trading A.J. Brown to the Patriots. Or any team, for that matter. There’s simply no good reason for the Eagles to trade him. Not one.

Patriots leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of a No. 1 wide receiver – Pats Pulpit
If nothing materializes on that front, or they are unwilling to explore lower-tier options on the open market, the Patriots are reportedly also actively forcing their luck on the trade market. So far, they have been linked to two players — Seattle’s DK Metcalf and Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown — and might also be interested in San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk should he indeed become available.

2025 NFL offseason: All 32 teams’ WR situations ahead of free agency, draft – NFL.com
The Brown-DeVonta Smith combo is devastating, as the Eagles Super Bowl run proved. The duo’s route acumen is so pristine they’re rarely slowed, let alone curtailed by opponents. When they don’t put up big numbers, it’s more so because the team doesn’t need a high-flying pass offense in that moment, rather than because of any lack of ability. Dotson came to Philly via a low-cost trade and stepped up when needed. He remains relatively inexpensive in the final year of his rookie deal, so he should stick around. Howie Roseman can bring in WR3 competition through the draft, but this isn’t what the Eagles’ 2025 offseason will focus on.

Eagles Free Agency Preview With Brandon Lee Gowton – Go Birds Podcast
BLG joins the show to discuss Darius Slay’s departure and what the Eagles can do next week when free agency opens to improve their roster.

Stuck with Saquon – Iggles Blitz
This is a smart move. The Eagles rewarded a player who just had one of the best seasons in the history of pro football and helped lead the team to a Super Bowl victory. You don’t nickel and dime that guy. He earned a raise. You give it to him. In the postgame celebration (after the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22 in SB LIX), multiple people embraced Barkley and told him what a difference he made and how special he was. This was teammates. This was Nick Sirianni. Even Jeffrey Lurie. Barkley was special on and off the field. That’s a guy you want to reward.

Eagles extend Saquon Barkley after historic 2024 season – PE.com
As impressive as he was on the field, Barkley transformed the Eagles’ locker room with his selflessness and his leadership. Even though Barkley didn’t wear a “C” on his uniform, he is beloved and respected by all corners of the organization. This contract extension reflects how he epitomizes what it means to be an Eagle and the team wants to ensure that Barkley remains a foundational pillar of the locker room for years to come. “It’s very obvious when you watch the tape how good of a player he is, right. But the things that he has that he brings to our football team as far as his leadership, his work ethic. He’s an awesome teammate. Those are the things that make him very special,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said. “And that’s pretty special that I’m saying that even more after you see him jumping over guys backwards and all that stuff.”

‘He inspired me to be what I am today’ – Inquirer
So he missed a year of football but refused to give up on his dream of reaching the NFL even when things seemed dim. Quinyon latched on with the University of Toledo, became a star, and was the school’s first first-round pick in 30 years. He had six-figure offers to play at bigger schools, but he stayed loyal to the coaches who gave him a chance when everyone else backed away. No obstacle would stop Quinyon Mitchell, 23, from reaching the NFL. His father, who helped spark the journey, watched it unfold from prison. “I’m just so thankful for the dream he had,” Quinyon said. “He inspired me to be what I am today. He was always present in my life, giving me good advice. He was always there for me. He couldn’t be there physically, but he was there mentally and spiritually.”

2025 NFL mock draft: Reid’s pick predictions for Rounds 1-2 – ESPN+
32. Philadelphia Eagles. James Pearce Jr., Edge, Tennessee. Pending free agents Josh Sweat and Milton Williams are due to cash in, via extensions or on the open market. If the Eagles can’t bring back Sweat, Pearce would be a great replacement and addition to an already deep and tenacious defensive front. His 19.0% pressure rate was the second best in the FBS, resulting in 7.5 sacks. The Eagles can let the board fall to them and take the best player available, which ends up being Pearce here.

Dunmore native Vic Fangio, defensive coordinator of Eagles, to march in St. Patrick’s Parade in Scranton – The Scranton Times-Tribune
Revelers at the annual St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday will have another reason to wear green at this year’s event. Dunmore native Vic Fangio, defensive coordinator of the 2025 NFL Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to march in this year’s parade, according to a social media post by the parade committee of the St. Patrick’s Parade Association of Lackawanna County. “We are thrilled to announce that NEPA native and Defensive Coordinator of the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles Vic Fangio will be marching in this year’s parade,” the parade committee’s post on Facebook said.

The 5 O’Clock Club: Commanders 2025 roster review – offensive tackles – Hogs Haven
The situation is a bit similar with veteran Andrew Wylie at right tackle. For one thing, the coaching staff seems content with his play, but also, the loss of starting right guard Sam Cosmi for most or all of the ‘25 season due to a torn ACL means that Adam Peters may have to focus resources on that position. Of course, many fans believe that Wylie could be the solution to that problem since he played guard for Kansas City in the past (and played pretty well). The same issue exists here as with Brandon Coleman; that is, the team would need to have a better option to play RT. Wylie could end up starting as Washington’s right tackle for the third straight season because (a) the coaches believe in him, or (b) there simply isn’t a better solution available.

BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys agree to multi-year deal with Osa Odighizuwa – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys have taken care of one of their biggest offseason priorities. After much speculation that they might be priced out due to his elevated play, the Cowboys signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year, $80M deal that includes $58M guaranteed and has a $20M signing bonus.

Eagles make former Giant Saquon Barkley the highest-paid RB in NFL history – Big Blue View
During the regular season, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards which ranks him eighth all time. He added 499 yards (127.5 per game) through the team’s three playoff games, including scoring five touchdowns. Will Barkley’s 2024 season lead to the resurgence of the running back market? Only time will tell, but congratulations to Barkley who finally gets his big pay day after battling through some ups and downs during his time as a Giant.

Seattle Seahawks make 4 players into cap casualties, including Dre’Mont Jones – Field Gulls
So, the players released and the cap amounts free up as a result of the moves are as follows: DE Dre’Mont Jones: $11,572,500. DT Roy Robertson-Harris: $6,600,000. S Rayshawn Jenkins: $5,280,000. T George Fant: $3,800,000. In total releasing these four members of the team will save the Seahawks $27,252,500 of 2025 salary cap space, and put the Hawks roughly $20M under the cap. Of that $20M, roughly half will be needed for the team to sign its draft picks, build the practice squad and retain an injured reserve pool. However, much of that space won’t be needed until much later in the year, meaning John Schneider is free to put that money to work in free agency.

Sam Darnold won’t be franchised tagged by Vikings. Here’s what happens next – SB Nation
The Vikings never thought they’d be in this position. Sam Darnold was supposed to be a caretaker, a placeholder — instead he led the Vikings to the playoffs, almost secured an NFC North title, and made the Pro Bowl in the process. It’s left Minnesota needing to think about their future at quarterback in an entirely different way, and that decision is looming large. It’s now being reported that the Vikings won’t use the franchise tag on Darnold to keep him one more year, which was expected to be the most-likely path to them retaining the quarterback. However, that also doesn’t mean the team is ready to let him go — with negotiations ongoing about whether there’s a way to retain the QB moving forward. The outcome of the Darnold situation will obviously have a profound effect on the Vikings, but it will also shake up free agency, and the NFL Draft. Dominoes toppling solely as a result of this decision. Let’s break down each of the paths forward and what it means for the Vikings and beyond.
