Can the Jets upset the 49ers on Monday Night Football?
The New York Jets will travel to the west coast on Monday Night Football to play the San Francisco 49ers to wrap up Week 1 of the NFL slate. It was one year ago that Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his achilles just four plays into the season.
The Jets come into the year with high expectations. The thought with the Jets has always been that they are a quarterback away. If they can get just average quarterback play, they are a team that should be one of the toughest to beat paired with their elite defense. The Jets added to the offensive line which should help Rodgers and running back Breece Hall will be two years removed from his ACL injury.
Over the past two years, NFC teams to make the Super Bowl have struggled the following year. The Los Angeles Rams went 5-12 in 2022 while the Philadelphia Eagles collapsed down the stretch after starting 10-1. The 49ers will be looking to avoid that same fate. However, this offseason has not gone without its share of drama. Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams each missed all of training camp due to contract disputes. The two players finally got that settled, but it’s worth wondering how much game shape they’ll be in.
According to Fanduel Sportsbook, the 49ers are 4.5-point favorites at home. Overall this should be a pretty good matchup between two teams that have Super Bowl aspirations. With that said, a concern for the 49ers is the offensive line, specifically the interior which is where the Jets will be looking to exploit. It’s hard to have too much confidence in the Jets in a big game, but 4.5 points seems like a large spread when this should be three and is a game that they could win outright.
The Pick: Jets (+4.5)
