The Linc – Eagles reportedly not interested in White House visit?

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 2/24/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Philadelphia Eagles make major decision over White House invitation post Super Bowl win following past Donald Trump snub – The Sun
THE Philadelphia Eagles plan to snub an invitation to the White House after winning the Super Bowl, The U.S. Sun has learned. A source at the Eagles, who spoke anonymously, stressed that conversations about refusing a visit with President Donald Trump after beating the Kansas City Chiefs LIX 40-22 have already occurred. […] However, a well-placed insider told The U.S. Sun that recent discussions between the players and the Eagles front office resulted in a “massive no” when asked if they would accept an invitation to the nation’s capital. “We focus on the game for now, but if we win the Super Bowl, we wouldn’t go to the White House,” a member of the ownership group told The U.S. Sun. A current player echoed those sentiments, claiming that “pretty much everyone” decided they would refuse to meet the President.

Jalen Hurts is already training for next season, and some other Eagles continue to celebrate the Super Bowl win in Las Vegas – BGN
This is the first full weekend that the Philadelphia Eagles had off since winning Super Bowl LIX, and there was definitely some need for rest after a grueling season and what seemed like a marathon of a parade down Broad Street last Friday. And while guys like A.J. Brown and Saquon Barkley talked about taking a little time off, but being drawn to get back into work, quarterback Jalen Hurts already has them beat. Hurts was back at home working on his fundamentals with his brother out on the practice field.

Takeaways: Rams Entering Critical Window With Matthew Stafford – SI
Kevin Patullo was the right offensive coordinator hire for the Eagles. Let’s start here—he’s been ready for a little while now. Two years ago, when Shane Steichen landed the Indianapolis Colts job, it was between Patullo and Brian Johnson to replace him, and Patullo was also considered as an option to be Steichen’s OC in Indy. After the way 2023 ended, and Johnson was let go, the Eagles, for obvious reasons, didn’t feel like they could go with another internal OC hire. And with all that, I’m sure there was some frustration. But Patullo gets points for being a loyal soldier, and for the strong relationships he’d built that carried him through that. Moore—who wound up being the external hire last year to replace Johnson—would tell you himself that Patullo was integral in melding systems and making the new Eagles offense easy for players who were going through another coordinator change. And for Nick Sirianni, who brought Patullo with him from Indianapolis back in 2021, the new OC was a valuable sounding board throughout.

Top Eagles storylines heading into 2025 NFL Combine – NBCSP
This will be our first time hearing from Sirianni since the Eagles promoted Kevin Patullo from passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator. And also our first time hearing from him since news became official that Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeier were leaving. Roseman had a pretty incredible 2024 offseason that led to a resurgent year. Can he do it again? What are his top priorities for this offseason? There are several key Eagles set to be free agents. Free agency will kick off when the negotiating window opens at 4 p.m. on March 10. Until then, the Eagles have exclusive negotiating rights with all their pending free agents. That means players like Zack Baun, Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Mekhi Becton and more.

Eagles 7-round mock draft: Can Tennessee pass rusher James Pearce Jr. become the next Josh Sweat? – PHLY
Round 1, pick 32: James Pearce Jr, edge rusher, Tennessee. This is a good combination of value, positional priority, and need. My guess is the Eagles try to trade out of the No. 32 spot, but if they draft here, the good money is that it will be along the lines of scrimmage. And it’s probably a player who you’ll ask, “How did he fall there?” That’s what I’m wondering with Pearce, who could be available late in the first round. (Fran’s January mock draft had Pearce at No. 27.) A 6-foot-5 and 242 pounds, Pearce has a lean frame that can fill out and athleticism that will excite you. I can see Josh Sweat comps with the length and the speed. He was considered a potential top-10 pick before the season. Pearce finished 2024 with 7.5 sacks after a 10-sack campaign as a sophomore. He has 2.5 sacks in his past two games against Alabama. Pearce also has a bit of experience dropping into coverage. It befuddles me that he’s in conversation at the bottom of the first round. Pearce can be a situational pass rusher as a rookie and grow into more. The other player in consideration here: Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku, a Woodstown, N.J. native who we’ll explore more during draft season.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Travis Hunter to Jaguars, Ashton Jeanty to Chargers and Myles Garrett traded – PFF
32. Philadelphia Eagles: LB Jalon Walker, Georgia. History repeats itself: The Eagles land another athletic pass-rusher from Georgia late in the first round. Walker isn’t nearly as experienced on the edge as Nolan Smith was as a prospect, but his athletic potential and the team’s ability to bring him along slowly could pay big dividends.

A rugby team from Philly bribed a South African bar to show the Super Bowl in the middle of the night – Inquirer
The trip to South Africa was planned last spring and Rachel Lambert was fully aware that it would fall on Super Bowl weekend. But the brutal finish to the previous Eagles season was still fresh. There was no way, she thought, that the Birds would be in the Big Game just a year after nose diving. And that’s why the Philadelphia Rugby Football Club — a team of 23 women — was scrambling earlier this month in Cape Town, South Africa, to find a spot to watch Super Bowl LIX.

2025 NFL Mock Draft Roundup: Washington Commanders have plenty of options at EDGE, WR, and OT – Hogs Haven
Adam Peters and Dan Quinn know that they need to build this team around Jayden Daniels, and the best way to do that long-term is through the draft. Washington will definitely be active in free agency, and that will change the team’s needs and draft priorities. For right now, we’re looking at a team that played with a lot of heart, and had one of the best single-season turnarounds in NFL history. They need a big influx of new, younger talent at a lot of positions. On offense, wide receiver and offensive line are heavily represented here, with five different players representing their position groups. The Commanders’ defense needs a lot of help, and EDGE defender tops that long list. There will be plenty of options available at the end of the first round and that is the most popular pick in this week’s roundup with another five different players. Cornerback is another popular choice as the team also has several pending free agents in the secondary.

This week will hopefully offer an outlook on a Micah Parsons extension for the Cowboys – Blogging The Boys
Consider the dates on those tweets. That was on March 1st of last year when the situation involving Dak Prescott was very well-known in terms of what the team needed to do and was up against. They decided to drag their feet and signed him over six months later, on the very day that the season began. This is important to remember ahead of this week when comments will come out relative to Micah Parsons and his contract extension. Like Prescott was last year, Parsons is currently set to play out the final year of his current contract with the Cowboys (although for Parsons it is the fifth-year option on his rookie deal). The variables are known. The market is on the verge of changing with players like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson involved as well. All signs point to doing this as soon as possible if logic is the engine driving the machine. We will see if the words this week line up with that disposition.

7-round New York Giants mock draft: The definitive quarterback answer – Big Blue View
The latest 7-round NFL mock draft from Pro Football Network allows me to do something I have been considering for the last few days. What’s that? Put my marker down on what I think, as of today, should be the 2025 quarterback plan for the New York Giants. What’s the plan? Sign Jameis Winston in free agency. Spotrac estimates a two-year, $12 million deal for Winston. That is neither expensive nor a major commitment. Trade up to No. 1 with the Tennessee Titans and select Cam Ward of Miami as the quarterback of the future. I will get into all of the reasons as we go along. Let’s get to the mock draft, though. Coincidentally, perhaps the reason why this mock hits on the exact scenario that is my favorite for the Giants is that the mock was done by former Big Blue View contributor Joe DeLeone.

NFL Competition Committee has discussed further kickoff tweaks, expanding replay assist – NFL.com
The NFL was pleased with the introduction of the dynamic kickoff rules for the 2024 season, but more changes could be on the horizon to keep improvement going. On Sunday, Falcons CEO and NFL Competition Committee co-chair Rich McKay said the league will look at moving both the spot of a touchback to the receiving team’s 35-yard line and moving the kickoff line 5 yards backward, NFL Network Senior National Columnist Judy Battista reported.

Keanu Neal announces his retirement – PFT
Safety Keanu Neal has reached the end of the line. Neal announced his retirement in an Instagram post on Sunday. Neal played for the Steelers in 2023 and was out of the league after Pittsburgh released him last year. [BLG Note: Never forget when Nick Foles’ pass bounced off Neal’s knee and into the waiting hands of Torrey Smith.]

Shemar Stewart is the NFL Draft’s most curious case study – SB Nation
The 2025 NFL Draft class is the perfect example of not only drafting guys for what they are now, but for what they can become. It’s the push-pull of getting instant impact now versus banking on your own development program and coaching that can turn a player into a superstar. Personally, I think this draft class has some really nice talent along the offensive and defensive lines, and Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart is near the top of the group. An athletic marvel at 6’5 and 281 pounds, Stewart’s meteoric rise has him going extremely high in mock drafts (my latest mock has him going ninth to the New Orleans Saints). The biggest question mark is that he only has 4.5 sacks in his entire career, a paltry number for any pass rusher entering the draft. However, I think that if you look past the sack numbers and what Stewart was asked to do and how he did it, what the tape shows is a player with all the potential to be a force in the NFL.
