The Linc – Adam Schefter thinks “there’s a real chance that [Mekhi Becton] winds up staying” in Philly

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 2/19/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Some Offseason Talk – Iggles Blitz
Mekhi Becton – Based on his highlights, Becton should be a Top 10 free agent. Unfortunately for him teams study whole games. Becton started 15 games and played the best football of his career. But he also was inconsistent. There were times when he struggled to pick up blitzes. There were times when he missed some simple blocks. Becton was still an above average player because of his size/strength. He had dominant moments. The Eagles are spending big at LT, LG and RT. They will need to pay Cam Jurgens. I think they have to go cheap at one of the OL positions. Replacing Becton with Tyler Steen would make financial sense. There is an X-factor. Becton seemed genuinely happy to be part of the Eagles. If he’s willing to sign a reasonable deal, the team could keep him around. The intriguing part of this is that Becton should improve as he plays RG more. He could become a legit Pro Bowl player with more experience.

NFL free agency will not be fun for the Eagles – BGN
Mekhi Becton. Becton sitting on the field tearing up as he soaked in winning the Super Bowl was an awesome moment. Getting out of New York showed that he can play, and there’s never a shortage of demand for offensive linemen in free agency. The Eagles will have options to replace him. Tyler Steen was adequate in his stead, this draft is strong in interior OL, and they should have no trouble signing a Becton-like change scenery veteran if they want. Go get your money, Mekhi.

2025 NFL offseason: Salary cap questions for all 32 teams – ESPN+
Can the Eagles afford to bring back all of their free agent stars on defense? Probably not, though it’s hard to put anything past GM Howie Roseman and that Eagles front office. Linebacker Zack Baun has played his way into a much larger contract than the one-year, $3.5 million deal the Eagles gave him last offseason. Defensive linemen Milton Williams and Josh Sweat are eligible for unrestricted free agency and are coming off the types of seasons (and Super Bowl performances) that get guys paid near the top of their position groups. The Eagles also have decisions to make on 34-year-old cornerback Darius Slay Jr. and 31-year-old cornerback James Bradberry IV, each of whom is entering the final year of his contract. Either or both could be let go to create cap room. The Eagles’ starting offense is pretty well locked in contractually, but there could be turnover on defense, which is why they’ve been using so much draft capital on that side of the ball in recent years.

NFL free agent rankings: EDGE rushers – SB Nation
4. Josh Sweat, Philadelphia Eagles. Sweat is a former Pro Bowler who has spent his entire seven-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s been their primary starter since 2021 and averaged eight sacks and 18.5 QB hits per season since then. He made $10 million in 2024 and is likely due a pay increase. Spotrac is projecting him to nab a three-year, $15 million deal. […] 3. Haason Reddick, New York Jets. You may remember Reddick because the Eagles traded him last offseason and he held out from the Jets into the regular season, forfeiting actual game checks in the process. To be fair, he was definitely underpaid following four straight double-digit sack seasons and a contract request was the reason the Eagles moved on in the first place. He turns 31 in September 2025 but is still likely to sign a decent contract in the three-year, $60 million to $75 million range. Once he gets that deal, it feels unlikely he will sit out in 2025.

Eagles-only 2025 mock draft, version 2.0 – PhillyVoice
Round 1: Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss (6’3, 305). Nolen had four sacks for Texas A&M in 2023 before transferring to Ole Miss. He had 6.5 sacks 2024. His career production has not always matched up with his potential, as he was the No. 1 recruit in the nation (via ESPN) coming out of high school. Still, he is gifted with an extremely enticing blend of power and quickness, and his production improved throughout his college career.

Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Eagles invest in the defensive line and secondary – PFF
Round 1, Pick 32: Edge Donovan Ezeiruaku, Boston College. The Eagles aren’t hesitant to invest in smaller edge rushers — Ezeiruaku measured in at 6-foot, 248 pounds at the Senior Bowl — and his pass-rush production in 2024 was worthy of a top-10 pick. He ended his college career on an incredible tear, tallying eight sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and 29 total pressures over his final four games at Boston College.

Daniel Jeremiah 2025 NFL mock draft 2.0: Steelers, Chargers, Vikings pick RBs in Round 1 – NFL.com
32) S Malaki Starks. The Eagles add another versatile piece to the secondary in Starks, who joins the “Georgia North” all-stars in Philadelphia.

Saints to hire Eagles run game specialist T.J. Paganetti – Canal Street Chronicles
T.J. Paganetti has worked under Eagles’ highly respected OL coach and run game coordinator Jeff Stoutland since 2017. After seeing how dominant the run game was for the Eagles and Saquon Barkley in 2024, as well as the resurgence of players like OL Mekhi Becton—who revived his career in Philadelphia after struggling with the New York Jets—I’m eager to see what Moore and Paganetti can do in New Orleans. I’d like to think Paganetti, alongside returning Saints OL coach Brendan Nugent (2015-2021), can get the best out of guys like Trevor Penning, who has also had a slow start to his career as a former first-round NFL Draft pick.

Raiders sign WR Kyle Phillips – PFT
The Raiders signed wide receiver Kyle Phillips on Tuesday, the team announced. Phillips spent 2024 on the Eagles’ practice squad. He did not appear in any games, but he did win a Super Bowl ring. He reunites with Chip Kelly, who coached Phillips for four years at UCLA and now is the Raiders’ offensive coordinator.

With big names comes BIG prices! – Hogs Haven
As you can see from NFL insider Adam Schefter, the price for Garrett would likely include two first round picks and probably another day two pick. To make matters worse, the acquiring team will have to sign him to a new contract extension upon trading for him. Myles has two years left on his current deal at $19.8M and $25M respectively, but both are non-guaranteed, and he’s rumored to be seeking a contract for four years and north of $138M, making him the highest paid non-quarterback in the league. For Washington, this shouldn’t affect a new contract for Daniels too much, as it’s likely Myles’ new deal would be in its last year when Jaydens is first kicking in, but it could affect what other players we would be able to acquire both via trade and free agency in the near future. The biggest impact here is the likely loss of three top 100 draft picks. Filling those holes with potentially lesser players could be troublesome for Washington both now and in the future. For a team like the Commanders, with a general manager who believes in building through the draft, that is a steep price to pay in both draft capital and cap dollars.

Jeffrey Lurie sets the example that Jerry Jones should be following – Blogging The Boys
It has often been said that the NFL is a copycat league. People look to the way the successful teams are working and try to emulate it in hopes of having their own success. That is common sense. In the coming months we will see a lot of teams try to make themselves in the image of the Philadelphia Eagles and that makes sense given how Philly just dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs for their second world championship since 2017. The reality is that, as much as we hate them, the Eagles are a model franchise in modern times in terms of how they go about the football part of their business.

Daniel Jeremiah mock draft: Travis Hunter, not Shedeur Sanders, for New York Giants – Big Blue View
NFL Network draft insider Daniel Jeremiah is out with his second mock draft of the 2025 draft cycle, and he presents a fascinating — and plausible — quarterback-less scenario for the New York Giants. Jeremiah mocks Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter to the Tennessee Titans at No. 1 and Miami quarterback Cam Ward to the Cleveland Browns at No. 2. That leaves the player most often connected to the Giants in mock drafts — Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders — available at No. 3. Jeremiah, though, goes another way. He gives the Giants Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.
