Schefter: Aaron Rodgers would be thrilled to replace Matthew Stafford

Would Rams be open to trading Matthew Stafford and signing Aaron Rodgers?

Is the biggest bargaining chip in negotiations between the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford the fact that there’s a future Hall of Fame quarterback on the market who could replace him? According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams would make sense as a landing spot for Aaron Rodgers if the team can’t come to a contract agreement with Stafford and decides to trade him.

And Schefter says that in his opinion, Rodgers would be “thrilled” to join the Rams.

As the Rams mull over their options with Stafford, one potential choice would be to trade Stafford, get whatever they can get for him, and then sign Rodgers at a discounted rate. At this point in his career, Rodgers must only be seeking an opportunity to win a Super Bowl and maybe he would see Sean McVay and Puka Nacua in the NFC as the best opportunity to do that.

It would still be hard to imagine Rodgers playing for free, but he did give back money in an effort to help the Jets win. Which clearly did not work.

Rodgers, who is four years older than Stafford, had 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the Jets last season. He didn’t miss a game, proving he was at least healthy enough to play a year after tearing his Achilles. Could Rodgers resemble his old self with another year of recovery and a better franchise as his supporting cast?

If Matthew Stafford refuses to play at a discount, that’s an option that Adam Schefter sees as a match that makes sense for both sides.
