The Eagles veteran right tackle isn’t ready to retire just yet, and hopes to be around for a while longer.
There was some speculation late in the season that Lane Johnson was considering retirement sooner rather than later. After 12 years in the league, it’s no surprise that the best right tackle in the NFL would start thinking about his life post-football, but Johnson said that whether the Eagles won or lost in the Super Bowl, he’d be back for another season.
He elaborated on that a little further in the days following the Super Bowl parade, and noted that he’s looking forward to “many more years to come.”

Johnson has given everything to this team over the years and certainly deserves to hang up his cleats whenever he’s ready, but the Eagles are a notably better team with the RT on the field, and thankfully they won’t have to look at his replacements just yet.
The six-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and two time Super Bowl Champion is still playing at an extremely high level, and is under contract until 2027. Johnson signed a restructured deal in 2023, making him one of the highest paid at his position, totaling nearly $81 million, with $30 million guaranteed and an $18.835 million signing bonus.
The Eagles are always going to pay attention to the depth up front and will likely try and find Johnson’s replacement in this year’s NFL Draft or next year’s, and let the right tackle mold the next man up — a la Jason Kelce and Cam Jurgens.
