The biggest offseason needs for all 32 NFL teams: A lot of defense, OL and a few quarterbacks | The Athletic
While there’s quite a few needs that could be addressed for a team that finished 3-14 and possesses the No. 3 pick, there’s no greater one than the quarterback. There’s not a long-term starter on the roster right now. With general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll returning, there’s a lot of pressure on them to get this right, so expect them to make some bold moves. Whether that’s trading up in the draft or spending big in free agency (or both), the Giants must attack the position aggressively this offseason.

Matthew Stafford trade scenarios: Three potential deals to acquire star Rams quarterback | CBSSports.com
Rams get: 2025 second-round pick (No. 34 overall), 2026 second-round pick
Giants get: Matthew Stafford
The No. 3 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft should be a nonstarter for New York in any trade revolving around Stafford, but if two second-round picks get it done, it could be hard to deny for Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. While it’d be nice to find a more long-term option at the position, both of their seats are expected to be quite hot at the start of next season, and Stafford would give them a good chance to start strong and cool the temperature, which shouldn’t be overlooked.
Boomer warns Giants about Matthew Stafford | WFAN.com
Stafford is a bit younger and not coming off a major injury, but Boomer warns that such a catastrophe is never out of the question for a quarterback his age, especially with a Giants offensive line that has had to operate without Andrew Thomas for much of the last two seasons, and the money it would take to bring Stafford to New York makes it a major risk.
“He’s a really good player, but you’re going down the road of a 37-year-old quarterback paying him north of $40 million a year, which is what it’s gonna take,” Boomer said. “To me, as much as I understand why the Giants would consider it if they are indeed considering it…you’re talking about older players and paying them a lot of money.”
Rams’ Matthew Stafford a fascinating option to consider for Giants | New York Daily News
While Giants GM Joe Schoen promised “no Hail Marys” out of self-preservation this offseason, Stafford unquestionably is the quarterback who would provide the Giants with their highest ceiling for the immediate 2025 season. Matthew Stafford could also conceivably have a higher opinion of the Giants’ roster than most due to Malik Nabers’ rookie year promise
NFL Draft 2025: If Giants trade for QB Matthew Stafford, who should they take with No. 3 pick? | NJ.com
So, would pulling a 2024 Falcons be smart for the Giants? Maybe if they had a better roster. The Giants aren’t exactly a QB away from contention. They have serious needs at corner, wide receiver and all over the offensive line. This brings us to our next (and best) scenario: The Giants using the pick to address one of their needs in an emphatic way — Colorado’s Travis Hunter should be at the top of their board — and setting themselves up for the near and distant future.

Prisco’s Top 100 NFL free agents for 2025: Sam Darnold, Tee Higgins, Josh Sweat headline list for free agency | CBSSports.com
In Pete Prisco of CBS Sports’ most recent rankings of this year’s Top 100 available free agents, linebacker Azeez Ojulari ranked 48th and wide receiver Darius Slayton 67th. Ojulari has 22 sacks in 46 games, so there is a lot to like. But injuries have limited him over his career. “He is just 25 years old, so there should be a market for a speedy edge player,” wrote Prisco, while Slayton is a speed receiver for an ability that a lot of teams need help in that area.
Five Pending Unrestricted Free Agents Giants Should Consider | SI.com
IDL Milton Williams was a key contributor to the Eagles defensive line last season while being stuck in a rotational role behind Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Williams finished the season with five sacks, 10 quarterback hits, 24 tackles, seven tackles for losses, and a strip sack in the Super Bowl.
New York can pair Williams with Dexter Lawrence to form an immovable defensive tackle pair. Williams will likely attract the interest of many teams. He has a market value of $12 million per year and, at 26, is young enough to receive a multi-year deal.
