Cowherd says Rams want Giants’ pick at No. 3

New York Giants fans on social media have been abuzz in recent days with the idea that the Giants might be in pursuit of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. According to Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd, where there is smoke, there’s fire.

“This sounds crazy. The Matt Stafford to the Giants stuff is real, I’m told,” Cowherd said on his show.

Cowherd says the Rams like Stafford, “but they don’t want to re-structure his deal and give him a big contract.”

Of the Giants, Cowherd said:

“The Giants do not like the quarterback class and Brian Daboll, the head coach, and Joe Schoen, the GM, have gotta win or they’ll be fired by Thanksgiving. They’re gonna get run out of the building … They are going to make a move, I believe, on Matt Stafford.”

Cowherd said the Rams want the Giants’ pick at No. 3 and “probably” another Day 2 draft asset.

Valentine’s View

My $.02 is that I can’t see the Giants giving up the No. 3 overall pick AND signing a 37-year-old quarterback to a rich contract extension. That would qualify as the kind of ‘Hail Mary’ Schoen promised at the end of the season that he would not use in an effort to swing for a short-term fix that might help him keep his job.
