Tommy DeVito will be emergency quarterback
With only 51 players on their 53-man active roster, the New York Giants needed just five inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The five inactives are:
S Anthony Johnson Jr.
CB Tre Hawkins III
OLB Boogie Basham
G Jake Kubas
QB Tommy DeVito (3rd QB)
DeVito will be in uniform and could play if both Daniel Jones and Drew Lock are unable to play.
Basham, a veteran edge defender, is perhaps the most surprising inactive. Basham being out means that both Azeez Ojulari and Benton Whitley, the other backup edge players, will be in uniform.
Hawkins, the second-year cornerback and Johnson, a waiver claim from the Green Bay Packers, also drew short straws.
Kubas, an undrafted free agent rookie, being inactive means that offensive tackle Evan Neal will be one of the Giants’ three backup offensive linemen. Aaron Stinnie and Joshua Ezeudu will be the others.
The Giants elevated two linebackers/special teams players — Carter Coughlin and ty Summers — for Sunday’s game.
Vikings inactives:
CB Fabian Moreau
DB Dwight McGlothern
WR Trishton Jackson
DT Levi Drake Rodriguez
DT Jalen Redmond
OT Walter Rouse
QB Brett Rypien (3rd)
