No surprise here.
Saquon Barkley is the AP Offensive Player of the Year for the 2024 NFL season.
This development hardly comes as a surprise but the announcement was made official at the NFL Honors on Thursday night.
The Philadelphia Eagles running back ran away with the voting like he’s been running away from defenders trying to chase him down in futility:
AP Offensive Player of the Year voting:
Saquon Barkley 35-8-3-3-1: 406
Lamar Jackson 12-7-5-5-3: 183
Ja’Marr Chase 0-25-8-10-2: 171
Derrick Henry 1-2-18-4-10: 92
Joe Burrow 1-5-8-7-5: 78

Barkley has been absolutely unreal this year.
He finished the regular season just 101 yards shy of breaking the NFL’s single-season rushing record. And that was with the Eagles resting him in Week 18.
That rest has only served to help Barkley continue his dominance in the playoffs. He’s just 30 yards away from setting a new single-season record for the most rushing yards ever produced with postseason games included.
Barkley really should’ve earned stronger consideration for MVP … but we all know that’s basically become an award exclusive to quarterbacks.
Of course, Super Bowl MVP is much more meaningful than regular season MVP. And there’s a good chance Barkley can take that trophy home as well if the Eagles can beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday evening.
At the very least, Barkley is the OPOY. He’s the first player in Eagles history to win that AP award since it was first issued in 1972.
