Make your pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will face off for the Lombardi trophy on Sunday in New Orleans. It is the type of stage that all teams fight to be on, but only two get that distinction. The Indianapolis Colts would love to be playing in the big game, but they have plenty to work on if that is to be their destiny. Currently, they are simply missing too many components that are required in today’s game: top-level quarterback play, a stingy defense, and high-end talent at the skilled positions. Yes, the Colts are a long way off, but that doesn’t mean you can’t tune in to the game of the year.
The Chiefs are looking to do something historic. No team has won three consecutive Super Bowls. That is the very feat that Jim Irsay stated was the ultimate goal and sign of a truly dominant force in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Eagles are seeking payback and their second Super Bowl since 2018. This Super Bowl is a rematch from two years ago when the Chiefs pulled out a high scoring affair, winning on a last second field goal. The sequel isn’t usually as good as the original, and the first match will be hard to beat.
Normally, I wouldn’t be rooting for the Eagles, but I was forced into action when they squared off against the Patriots and find myself on their side again this year. I don’t personally dislike the Chiefs but seeing the same team win over and over again gets old. After a crushing loss, it would be nice to see some of those Eagles players get some payback. WIth that said, I don’t think I can bet against the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes has some magic in him. He has a unique ability to make plays and seems to come up clutch. His ability and their back to back titles has to make them the betting favorite.
Either way, this matchup probably doesn’t rank very high on most fans’ list of preferences. Seeing a team like the Vikings, Lions, or Bills would probably have provided more of a fun rooting interest for most. If anything, more fans will probably be rooting against a team than for one. Will history be made with the Chiefs achieving the elusive three-peat, or will the Eagles get their revenge? We will find out the answer to that question on the NFL’s season finale.
