The latest news and updates.
The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report of the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Four players were listed under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Jalen Carter, Brandon Graham, DeVonta Smith, and Kenny Gainwell.
Carter missed Wednesday’s media availability due to “illness.” Seeing him limited is preferable to him missing practice entirely.
Graham has been talking like he’s going to suit up on Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s upgraded to full participation over the next two days.
DeVonta is expected to play. The Eagles seem to be managing his practice workload to get him to Sunday.
Gainwell participated in practice for the first time since suffering a concussion in the NFC Championship Game. It seems like he has a good chance to be cleared to play on Sunday.
Six players were listed under FULL PARTICIPATION: Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Dallas Goedert, Zack Baun, Britain Covey, and C.J. Uzomah.
Encouraging to see both Dickerson and Jurgens fully participate in practice. They’ll be starting on Sunday. The question is: will they be able to make it through the game? Or will their performance be noticeably hindered?
For what’s worth, NFL insider Ian Rapoport had the following to say about Dickerson:
“My understanding is that it’s a fairly significant knee injury. It’s not nothing.”
Goedert missed practice time last week with an “ankle/rest” designation but he’s ready to roll.
Baun was unexpectedly added to the report late last week with a groin injury. But apparently it’s nothing too serious.
Covey fully participated in practice for the first time since the Eagles opened his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve. Multiple reporters have been pessimistic about Covey’s chances of being activated for the Super Bowl, however. Cooper DeJean will continue to return punts if Covey remains on IR.
The Eagles can activate Uzomah from IR if they want him to be their third tight end instead of E.J. Jenkins. It remains to be seen if they’ll go that route.
These players were notably not listed on the injury report after appearing on it last week: Saquon Barkley (rest), A.J. Brown (rest), Nolan Smith (illness), Moro Ojomo (shoulder), Brett Toth (knee), and Eli Ricks (illness).
They’re all ready to play, though Ricks will likely be a healthy scratch.
