Could the two sides hammer out an extension when said meeting takes place? The goal is to remain in Cincinnati.
Trey Hendrickson drew a lot of attention with Wednesday’s comments about his contract situation with the Cincinnati Bengals.
On one hand, it was great to hear him express his love for Cincinnati and his desire to win a Super Bowl for the Bengals.
On the other hand, it was clear Hendrickson is frustrated with the lack of progress on a potential contract extension, namely the lack of actual dialogue between the two sides.
Thankfully, it appears that will be changing as early as next week.
According to WLWT’s Charlie Clifford, Hendrickson’s agent will meet with the Bengals as early as next week. When that takes place, the hope is it will produce clarity if an extension will be prioritized, or if Hendrickson needs to seek a trade.
Trey Hendrickson’s agent Harold Lewis tells @WLWT he expects to meet with the Bengals as early as next week. At that point, there will be clarity whether this moves toward an extension or a trade.
“The ultimate goal is to make him a Bengal for the long-term.”

Entering the final year of his current deal, Hendrickson has made it clear that he wants a new deal ASAP. He’s more than earned it after leading the league in sacks this past season and could earn NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.
However, Hendrickson turns 31 in December, and the Bengals are always leery of giving big extensions to players who are in their 30s. If the two sides can’t work something out, Hendrickson could issue another trade request, though unlike last offseason, this one would likely involve missing training camp, the preseason, and potentially the start of the regular season.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
