Super Bowl team has some quality free agents

The Kansas City Chiefs are a machine.

They’re going for their third straight Super Bowl title, which has never happened before, and they are playing in the NFL’s final game of the season for the fifth time in the past six seasons.

So, it’s going to be tough for the fans of the Las Vegas Raiders to endure watching again Sunday when Kansas City faces the Philadelphia Eagles.

Yet, there is a reason for the Raiders to watch the Super Bowl — to scout some prospective free agents.

Kansas City has some interesting free agents and what better way to weaken the enemy than to poach from them?

The Raiders are flush with salary-cap room. According to Over The Cap, they are projected to have the second most cap room in the NFL with more than $92 million. The Chiefs, though, are projected to have $11 million, so they will have trouble keeping their top free agents.

Their biggest priority will be guard Trey Smith, who is one of the top free agents headed to the open market. They also have linebacker Nick Bolton, safety Justin Reid, wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown, pass-rusher Josh Uche, defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton and running back Kareem Hunt.

The Chiefs won’t be able to keep all of these players and, at least ,a few of the will attract to the Raiders. If Las Vegas lets linebacker Robert Spillane and safeties Tre’von Moehrig and/or Marcus Epps walk, Bolton and Reid could come into play.

Pete Carroll loves winners and the idea of poaching some Chiefs is probably appealing.
