Giants poach the college ranks
The New York Giants are reportedly hiring Illinois assistant linebackers coach Grant Morgan to be part of their defensive coaching staff. Morgan’s exact role on the staff is not yet known.
Morgan spent the last two seasons working under Illinois head coach Bret Bielema. Bielema was outside linebackers coach for the Giants in 2020 as part of Joe Judge’s coaching staff.
Morgan played for the Arkansas Razorbacks when Bielema was head coach there, beginning his career as a preferred walk-on in 2016.
Morgan spent six seasons at Arkansas and recorded 313 career tackles. He became an All-American and Burlsworth Trophy winner as the nation’s best former walk-on.
Morgan went undrafted after the 2021 season. He spent two weeks on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad before being released and turning to coaching.
The Giants have John Egorugwu coaching inside linebackers and Charlie Bullen coaching the edge defenders.
