Eagles roster news: Brandon Graham practice window opened among 4 moves

Eagles roster news: Brandon Graham practice window opened among 4 moves

BG!!!

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced four roster moves on Thursday morning. An overview:

  • DE Brandon Graham and TE C.J. Uzomah’s 21-day practice windows to return from injured reserve were opened.
  • RB Lew Nichols was signed to the practice squad.
  • TE Nick Muse was released from the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

BRANDON GRAHAM

Very exciting to see BG return to practice!

Graham suffered what was believed to be a season-ending (and perhaps career-ending based on his retirement decision) triceps injury back in the Eagles’ regular season win over the Los Angeles Rams on November 24. Big-time bummer.

Since then, however, Graham has hinted that he might be able to suit up in the Super Bowl if the Eagles made it there.

Well, the Eagles did indeed make it to the Super Bowl. And now it looks like Graham has a chance to play in the big game.

It’s fair to wonder just how much Graham will be able to contribute if he is able to play. But there’s absolutely value in him being on the field as part of the Eagles’ pass rush rotation. Not to mention the leadership and energy he provides. Graham’s potential return to the field is an awesome story.

We’ll see how he fares in practice leading up to February 9. The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Eastern on February 8 to officially activate him to the roster in time to play in the Super Bowl.

C.J. UZOMAH

Uzomah is eligible to be activated from IR after missing four games. The Eagles are currently running with Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and E.J. Jenkins are their top three tight ends. Maybe they want to replace Jenkins with Uzomah? Or maybe they’re just opening his window for an extra tight end body to have for practice purposes.

LEW NICHOLS

Kenny Gainwell is currently in the concussion protocol and he’s also dealing with a knee injury. The Eagles re-signing Nichols to the practice squad is likely about having an extra running back body for practice purposes. If Gainwell can’t play in the Super Bowl, the Eagles would probably elevate Tyrion Davis-Price from the practice squad to be RB3 behind Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley. But there’s still plenty of time for Gainwell to return.

NICK MUSE

The Eagles only added Muse to their practice squad last week. He clearly became expendable with Uzomah returning to practice.
