Bengals go a different route in 2024 re-draft

Cincinnati does not select Amarius Mims the second time around.

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted their future franchise right tackle in Amarius Mims this past offseason.

The monster right tackle battled injuries throughout the season but played incredibly well during his time protecting Joe Burrow.

Although the rookie right tackle played well in his first season, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport has the Bengals going in a different direction in his 2024 first round re-draft.

Instead of Mims, Davenport has Cincinnati going with Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga.

“Taliese Fuaga was thrown into the fire as a rookie, playing 1,070 snaps in 2024 for the New Orleans Saints. It wasn’t a flawless first season, but former Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was impressed by what he saw from the youngster in 2024,” Davenport wrote.

Davenport was big on Fuaga’s versatility, “Taliese played left tackle in New Orleans, but he could easily move to the right side—or even kick inside to guard.”

Davenport did share his thoughts on the issues on defense but still believes the 18th overall pick last season should still have been spent protecting Joe Burrow.

I agree with this. Although the defense struggled in many ways, the Bengals desperately needed a Day 1 starter on the offensive line that was young and athletic.

Either way the Bengals went, with Mims or Fuaga, it would have been a great selection.

Glad that Mims is in Cincinnati, though!

For what it’s worth, Mims ended up going 29th overall to the Dallas Cowboys in this re-draft.
