A.J. Brown on the field conditions in Brazil: “It wasn’t that bad”

The Eagles’ WR spoke to reporters after their Week 1 win about the field conditions, how Saquon Barkley should have had four TDs, and more.

The Eagles left Brazil with a win over the Packers, but A.J. Brown took a few minutes to talk to reporters after the game before they headed back to Philly.

Brown said that he wanted to get going early, admitting he was in his head a little bit after not playing in the Eagles playoff game due to injury. He was eager to feel that first tackle, and get back into it.

He thought overall it was a good game. They knew some things would go wrong since it was the first game of the season, but they made adjustments and it came down to making plays.

Here’s what else the WR had to say:

On the field conditions

Brown explained that there are different grasses in the United States, too, and different surfaces come with the game of football.

“You can’t pick and choose what grass you play on. It wasn’t that bad. We changed cleats and you make the most of it.”

He went on to note that he and some of the guys changed their cleats after the first drive, but at the end of the day, the Packers had to play on the same field, so they had to find a way to make it work.

“It really wasn’t a complaint, for me.”

On Jalen Hurts’ performance

“[Hurts] did well.”

Brown acknowledged that the QB would probably say he wants some of those throws back, but that was a question for Hurts.

On Saquon Barkley’s performance

“[Barkley] played really tonight. He should’ve had four touchdowns, and I told him. But, he did really well. It helps us out, when you get the ground game going, it helps with the passing game. We’re excited that he’s on our team, and he started the season off right.”

Other notables

  • He talked about having a mini-bye coming off their international game, and will have to do what they need to get their bodies right from all the travel. Brown said there were no excuses, they’re professionals, and need to get the work done.
  • The WR said that playing in Sao Paulo was great, even if the fans didn’t always know when to cheer, but they were loud the entire game. He admitted that the city got a bad rep, especially with them getting a long list of don’t dos, but everyone has treated the team well and it was great to see the city.

“So, I’m glad we got the opportunity to come down here and play.”

  • Brown talked about how hard of a team the Packers are to play, and how it was not an easy win. Green Bay did a good job mixing things up, and now the Eagles will continue to fix things and improve.
  • He was later asked about the team losing the turnover battle 3-1, and Brown noted that they need to clean that up, but made sure to include, “that’s on all of us.”
