Sure, why not?
As we head into the biggest regular season finale that the Minnesota Vikings have seen in many years, they find themselves in a position that they haven’t been in very much recently: the role of underdog.
According to our friends from FanDuel, the betting lines have opened for Sunday night’s matchup at Ford Field, and the Vikings have opened as a 2.5-point underdog against the Detroit Lions.
The last game between these two teams was a close one, as the Lions prevailed by a score of 31-29 on a field goal with under thirty seconds left in the game. Minnesota lost their next game against the Los Angeles Rams, and they haven’t lost since, having reeled off nine wins in a row.
The Lions had an 11-game winning streak earlier in the season that was snapped by a loss to Buffalo a couple of weeks ago and are currently taking on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
The over/under for this game currently rests at 52.5 points, which is one of the higher totals that we’ve seen for a Vikings game this season. The gambling folks are expecting a high-scoring affair in this one.
Heading into the season, the Vikings weren’t expected to be favored in very many games. Now, as they look to conclude one of the most surprising seasons in franchise history, they’ll look to overcome their underdog status and wrap up the #1 seed in the NFC for the first time in over a quarter of a century.
