The Miami Dolphins’ 2025 opponents have been set.
While the Miami Dolphins are focused on their upcoming season finale contest against the New York Jets and the potential playoff berth that could come with a win, the team’s 2025 schedule is starting to fall into place. As the 2024 regular season conclusion approaches, teams are beginning to lock into the final standings for each division, giving us a look at who Miami will host or visit next year.
The NFL uses a rotation of divisions in setting their schedule each season. For 2025, the AFC East is scheduled to face the AFC North and the NFC South, accounting for eight of the Dolphins’ games. Add in the home-and-home series with each of the other teams in the AFC East, and 14 of the 17 games are known even before the season begins. The remaining three games are determined by the finishing position for each team in their respective divisions. With the AFC East facing the entire AFC North in 2025, the Dolphins will face the team that finishes in the same position in the AFC South and West as Miami finishes in the AFC East – in this case, second place.
The 17-game schedule the league has used the last few seasons adds in a rotation against a team from a division in the other conference as well. For 2025, that rotation will be the NFC East for Miami.
Miami is locked into the second position in the AFC East for 2024, trailing the Buffalo Bills and head of the New York Jets and New England Patriots. Matching up with that second-place position are the Indianapolis Colts (AFC South), Los Angeles Chargers (AFC West), and Washington Commanders (NFC East).
The NFL’s schedule with an odd number of games also leads to a rotation of AFC or NFC teams hosting nine games each season. In 2025, the AFC is slated to hold nine home games, but the Dolphins will only be in Miami for eight of those games. The Dolphins have been told they will have a home game at an international site in 2025. The NFL is expected to play in Brazil, Spain, England, and Germany next season, all sites that could hold the Dolphins’ ninth home game.
