Will Chase Brown be able to play?
Chase Brown has been every bit of the RB1 the Cincinnati Bengals needed this season. He was given a high workload throughout the last several weeks, and that continued into the must-win game vs. the Denver Broncos on Saturday.
Cincinnati gave Brown 20 carries for 67 yards prior to an injury suffered late in the fourth quarter. When Brown went down, Khalil Herbert entered the game and took the rest of the reps. Herbert was traded from Chicago prior to the trade deadline this season.
Brown’s injury, in real-time, looked pretty bad, but it might not hold him out for too long.
FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz says it’s a high-ankle sprain and that Brown is determined to play vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport simply said it’s not considered a major injury and that there’s a chance Brown plays in Week 18.
Here’s a breakdown of the injury and what a potential outcome might be from it.
Chase Brown –
Could have been knee or ankle, and could have been significantly worse.
But looks like a high ankle mechanism as his cleat sticks and ankle rolls into eversion. Likely stiffens up post game and could give him problems into week 18 practices. pic.twitter.com/iCLzZ4wn6C— Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) December 29, 2024
Chase Brown
Diagnosis: High-Ankle sprain
Trying to play on this next week, even if it is a ‘mild’ high-ankle sprain is VERY concerning.
The syndesmotic ligament connects the tibia and fibula bones is stretched during a high-ankle sprain.
This is a ROTATIONAL injury,… https://t.co/8hBzWLSN4S

Brown had been having a career year with the Bengals, having 923 rushing yards on 209 carries to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. He had truly transformed into the Bengals’ top option in the backfield.
Here’s to hoping Brown can effectively play in Week 18 at Pittsburgh.
