Your open thread for Christmas day

Merry Christmas and happy holidays New York Giants fans! The NFL brings a pair of great matchups to the Christmas Day festivities.

Christmas Day has traditionally been the territory of the NBA, but the NFL has recently been offering games as well. Today we get the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Kansas City Chiefs at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Houston Texans playing the Baltimore Ravens at 4:30 p.m.

It’s worth noting that neither game will be on broadcast TV and will instead be streaming on Netflix.

Today could be a preview of the AFC playoffs, so grab some hot chocolate, settle in, and let’s enjoy.

Chris’ Picks

Steelers vs. Chiefs

This could be an excellent game and could really come down to the status of Joey Porter Jr. and Chris Jones. Both players have been dealing with injury and will be crucial to slowing down the opposing offense.

That said, I don’t think I can pick against Pat Mahomes, even injured. That’s particularly true as the playoffs loom and the Chiefs start eyeing their third consecutive Super Bowl title. The Chiefs are 2.5-point favorites, and this should be a tough, close, and exciting game.

Texans vs. Ravens

It would be a mistake to sleep on the Texans, but I’m definitely going with the Ravens here. Baltimore has a remarkably complete team and can beat you in a number of ways.

Their biggest Achilles heal is how aggressively they play — which often leads to penalties. Baltimore has been their own worst enemy this year, and they can’t afford to give the Texans hidden yardage or new life to stalled drives. If the Ravens can play a clean game, this should be a good game, but a Baltimore victory.

The Ravens are 5.5-point favorites, per FanDuel Sportsbook
