Sean McVay on team bouncing back from 1-4 start: ‘Credit to the players’

The head coach credits the players for the team’s positive and dramatic turnaround since the start of the season

After starting their season 1-4, the Los Angeles Rams just defeated the New York Jets on Sunday to extend their current win streak to four, and their regular season record to 9-6. An impressive turnaround from the team that once was a longshot to make the postseason.

Sean McVay reflected with media members after the win and the modest head coach simply said, “Credit to the players.” in regard to how the team has turned around their season. Who else deserves credit besides the players? McVay may not admit it to the public, but he certainly deserves as much credit as anyone.

Another non-player deserving of praise is defensive coordinator Chris Shula who so far has done an admirable job commanding L.A.’s defense.

Special team’s coordinator Chase Blackburn has also turned around what was one of the weakest units in the NFL last year. L.A.’s third phase of the game is no joke, and even ultimately closed out the Rams latest victory when the group recovered a muffed punt by the Jets.

Les Snead seems to have put together another successful draft and free agency period as plenty of new faces and familiar faces are making plays for the Rams to keep their season headed in the right direction.

Yes, the players deserve the credit first and foremost because they make the product come to life. There’s also plenty of credit to spread around the organization from top to bottom. Of course, in a week-to-week league credit can turn into blame quickly, but after 15 games there’s plenty of positive credit to be given and positive vibes to be shared.

The Rams have a chance to make the postseason for the second year in a row. After starting how they did that’s an accomplishment in it of itself, but having a shot at the playoffs and making them are not the same.

McVay knows the Rams still have work to do, and maybe he’s hesitant to give himself too much credit yet because he knows he still has plenty of work to do himself. But to this point the team is playing well, and that’s a reflection on the players and coaches alike.

Can they keep it going? They’ll find out.
