How are you feeling about this matchup?
I suspect the Washington Commanders are aware of what’s at stake for the Philadelphia Eagles today.
An Eagles win means clinching the NFC East and no worse than the No. 2 seed. Dan Quinn’s side will put forth a big effort to prevent that much from happening in the Commanders’ home stadium.
I think this one will be close. The Eagles trailed the Commanders entering the fourth quarter the last time these two teams met. And that was with Jayden Daniels looking less healthy and Marshon Lattimore not yet playing for Washington.
The Commanders will be missing their leading receiver from that Week 11 matchup; Austin Ekeler had eight grabs for 89 yards in that game but he’s on injured reserve now. So, there’s that.
Speaking of Washington running backs, I suspect the Eagles will be aware of Brian Robinson’s comments from earlier this week. They weren’t really THAT salacious as far as bulletin-board material goes … but that doesn’t necessarily matter. This Eagles team seems to use perceived slights as extra motivation.
The Eagles saw the benefit of sticking with Saquon Barkley the last time they faced the Commanders as he took over the game in the fourth quarter. If Washington is able to stifle the NFL’s leading rusher early on, it hardly means it’s just not his day. And the Commanders could certainly struggle to contain him from the jump since their run defense is vulnerable.
Should be a good one. The feeling here is it’s close for much of the game until the Birds close it out late.
