Other Giant observations

Giants’ tank talk whispers only getting louder — and more difficult for players to avoid | New York Post

If it’s holiday season, that means it’s tanking season in the NFL.

Tank talk has been a part of the conversation surrounding the 2024 Giants for weeks now.

As Daniel Jones was finally released as an organizational admission that he was never going to be the franchise quarterback the Giants hoped he’d become, that was the first tangible sign of resignation to this season.

Early 2025 Salary Cap Projections Revealed – How Much Will the Giants Have? | SI.com

According to the NFL Network, the 2025 cap is projected to be between $265 million and $275 million. That means teams could expect a $9.6 million to $19.6 million increase from this year’s $255.4 million. Over the Cap, which has estimated the 2025 cap to be $272.5 million, has the Giants with $57.26 million in space. The Giants, who have $218,176,778 committed to 40 contracts next year, could see that total rise by about $3-$4 million if the best-case scenario plays out.

Dabs’ Digest: Week 16 conversation with Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com

Q: When you start a season, you don’t know what you’re going to get from the rookies…

Daboll: “It’s a growing process for those guys and they’re continuing to learn and there’s no substitute for experience. So, the experience plus some of the production we’ve got from these guys should serve us well. They’ve done a nice job and we need them to continue to be productive. They’re good young players to continue to develop, work with and will be a big part of our team.

“You go through the process. You evaluate a guy like Malik. When you take him where we took him, you hope to get production from players that you take that high and you know he certainly was a guy that we thought highly of. He’s come in and done a great job for us. Guys like Tracy and Theo, before he got hurt, on the offensive side. Then Nubin with how much he played and Phillips and some of those undrafted free agent guys. We’ll just continue to develop them.”

Sanders, Ward and other options for Giants QB for next season | ESPN.com

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are expected to be the top collegiate QB options. Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold, Justin Fields, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jameis Winston are among the most notable veteran quarterbacks who could be available.

Sanders seems to be the most likely option should New York (currently 2-12) finish with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Multiple sources close to Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado program also believe his preference would be to land in Las Vegas.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Latest Three-Round Predictions As Playoffs Approach | The 33rd Team

2. New York Giants: Cam Ward, QB, Miami. Ward is an electric playmaker with an exciting blend of arm talent and mobility. He has the drive velocity and flexible release to attack any area of the field from any platform and can layer throws between multiple levels of coverage. However, as a fifth-year senior, he still needs to significantly improve his timing and processing from the pocket, sack avoidance, ball security, and intermediate accuracy.

34. New York Giants: CB Maxwell Hairston – Kentucky

66. New York Giants: OT Anthony Belton – North Carolina State

Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward to Giants? It won’t matter unless they finally fix their offensive line | NJ.com

Giants general manager Joe Schoen inherited an offensive line mess from Dave Gettleman. But Schoen hasn’t done nearly enough to fix it.

Will Lions rebound? Should Vikings keep Sam Darnold? What’s Belichick’s endgame? | FOX Sports

Ralph Vacchiano: “…while I don’t know if Daboll and GM Joe Schoen are the right people for their jobs, I know that three years is hardly enough time to find out. After the 2006 season, Coughlin’s third year, everybody wanted him fired — fans, the media, most of his players, and probably almost everyone employed by the team, too. But Giants owner John Mara resisted the urge. He gave Coughlin one more year to turn things around. And 12 months later, Coughlin won a Super Bowl. OK, the Super Bowl thing is probably not going to happen for the Giants next year regardless. Still, my longer, non-aerial message is that sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make.”

Eli Manning and the Hall of Fame argument that may never go away | The Athletic

He isn’t anxious about his chances now, though he acknowledges being inducted would be very meaningful. He could campaign for himself. But he won’t.

“That’s not me,” he says. “And hey, I can see both sides of the case. That’s just kind of my personality.”

This week’s opponent

Falcons teammates focused on finding ‘best way to support’ Michael Penix Jr. | AtlantaFalcons.com

“It’s almost like a double-edged sword type of thing. You know how much Kirk puts into it and what it means to him,” Safety Justin Simmons said. “And, at the same time, [we’re] moving forward with Mike and got to find the best way to support him as a defense and to get him some easy throws, easy catches, things like that.”

Drake London on Falcons QB change: I just catch the ball, I don’t care who throws it | Pro Football Talk

London said it’s on him and his fellow receivers to catch the ball no matter who is throwing it to them, and that’s what they’ll do.

“I don’t take QB changes in any way,” London said. “We did that in college a lot. Honestly, how I look at is, Just catch the ball. Whoever throws me the ball, I don’t care, just as long as it gets there and it’s catchable, that’s all that matters to me.”

NFL Week 16 picks, schedule, odds, injuries, fantasy tips | ESPN.com

Running back Bijan Robinson is one touchdown away from being the first Falcons player with 1,000 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in a season since Devonta Freeman in 2016.
