First glimpse into the health of both teams ahead of Sunday’s game
The Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks have issued their first injury reports of the week in advance of Sunday’s matchup. Here they are:
Minnesota Vikings
- CB Fabian Moreau, Hip, DNP (did not practice)
- DT Jalen Redmond, Concussion, DNP
- S Harrison Smith, Foot, LP (limited participant)
- OLB Pat Jones II, Knee, LP
- T Brian O’Neill, Knee, LP
- DT Harrison Phillips, Knee, LP
- T David Quessenberry, Oblique, LP
- CB Stephon Gilmore, Hamstring, FP (full participant)
- TE Josh Oliver, Wrist, FP
- Update: OLB Dallas Turner, Knee, LP
For the Vikings, it’s looking like Stephon Gilmore will return to the lineup while Fabian Moreau may not play this Sunday or at least not start. Jalen Redmond entering the concussion protocol on a short week means he’s more doubtful for Sunday’s game- it’s difficult to clear the protocol that fast. The other injuries appear to be more banged up/play through type injuries that are unlikely to keep the players out on Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have quite an injury list to begin with this week.
- RB Zach Charbonnet, Oblique, DNP
- TE Brady Russell, Foot, DNP
- RB Kenneth Walker III, Calf, DNP
- WR D.K. Metcalf, Shoulder, DNP
- C Olu Oluwatimi, Knee, DNP
- DE Leanard Williams, Foot/NIR-Rest, DNP
- CB Tre Brown, Hamstring, DNP
- G Laken Tomlinson, NIR-Rest, DNP
- WR Tyler Lockett, NIR-Rest, DNP
- NT Jarren Reed, NIR-Rest, DNP
- TE Noah Fant, Knee, LP
- LB Ernest Jones IV, Knee, LP
- LB Travis Gipson, Ankle, LP
- T Abraham Lucas, Knee, FP
- TE A.J. Barner, Shoulder, FP
- QB Geno Smith, Knee, FP
- S K’Von Wallace, Ankle, FP
At this point, it’s hard to know which of these are injuries that might keep a player out on Sunday and which are more of the garden variety banged up and playing through type, but I’m guessing almost all of them are the latter.
The fact that Geno Smith was listed as a full participant should dispel any doubts about his playing on Sunday, unless his knee flares up later in the week.
Starting center Olu Oluwatimi is one to watch, as he left the Packers game last Sunday with a knee/quad combo injury and did not return. That sounds like it could be more than a minor injury that could keep him out on Sunday. We’ll see.
Both Zach Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker III not practicing is mildly concerning should they both not be able to go on Sunday. Walker is coming back from a calf injury that has sidelined him for some time, and expectations were that he may be ready to come back. Charbonnet’s oblique injury is a bit of a surprise, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that one. D.K. Metcalf has been playing through his shoulder injury for a while now, so I doubt he’ll be sidelined on Sunday.
The rest are either not that concerning (i.e. rest days) or are not starters.
We’ll have an update tomorrow that should begin to clarify injury designations for Sunday’s game.
