They are locked in as of tonight
Even though they won’t officially take the field until Monday night, the Minnesota Vikings officially accomplished something in Week 15 that few thought possible before the season.
With the Seattle Seahawks falling to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, the Vikings have officially wrapped up a spot in the 2024 NFL playoffs. There is no sequence of events that can stop them from playing football in January after this evening.
Well, mid-to-lateish January. We know there are at least a couple of games in January for the Vikings to play already.
We talked earlier tonight about how the Vikings control their own destiny as far as it concerns a second NFC North title in three years and, potentially, the #1 overall seed in the NFC playoffs, which is a level that the Vikings haven’t reached since 1998. If the Vikings win out, they’ll be the top seed in the conference, which would give them the only bye in the NFC and spare them from having to play on Super Wild Card Weekend.
The Vikings are now one of just three teams, along with the Philadelphia Eagles or the Detroit Lions, who can be the #1 seed in the NFC.
Congratulations to Kevin O’Connell, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings team on making a return trip to the playoffs in a year when expectations for the team were about as low as they’ve been in recent memory. No matter how long this ride continues, it’s been a great season to watch and should give the team a solid foundation going forward.
