The young guys on the Eagles defense were quick to have Darius Slay’s back in what eventually led to a sizeable scrum.
The tone was set early on Sunday when the Eagles hosted the Steelers, and it only took into the first quarter for the teams to square off after the whistle. Steelers TE/OT Darnell Washington kind of man-handled Darius Slay through the endzone, resulting in the entire Eagles defense getting their Captain’s back.

Notably, it was the young guys like Jalyx Hunt and Quinyon Mitchell who let Washington know they were not to be messed with. Jalen Carter was in the scrum and certainly edging towards Washington to give him a piece of his mind, too.
Slay wasn’t surprised that Mitchell was one of the first guys to defend him, saying that’s his little brother and they show up for each other, so of course he would be right there.
Eventually things cooled down, and the melee resulted in offsetting penalties, but Slay was just happy there were no ejections. The Eagles defense was dynamic all game — although they only played two drives in the second half — and seeing them fight for each other is what you want in mid-December.
