Chiefs could have to rely on Carson Wentz down the stretch

While the Chiefs are relying on one former Eagles player, several other Philly alumni have had their seasons cut short due to injury.

The Eagles haven’t had as much roster turnover the past few years, but there are still plenty of Philly alumni playing around the league. In Week 15, a former first-round QB was asked to step in for a Super Bowl MVP, and several other former Eagles landed on IR.

Here’s a little look at some noteworthy moments for some notorious ex-Eagles.

Carson Wentz needed by the Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes went down halfway through the fourth quarter on Sunday against the Browns, and Carson Wentz had to come in to finish the game. The Chiefs were already up by two scores, and Wentz had two completions for 20 yards.

Mahomes is considered week-to-week with what the team believes is a high ankle sprain — although they’ll have more information after tests on Monday. Kansas City has three games in 10 days over the holidays, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they relied on Wentz to get them through this last stretch of the season. The Chiefs have already clinched a playoff spot and the AFC West title, so now their focus will shift to being healthy enough for a postseason run.

Wentz got some snaps in late October, but this looks to be the first time since signing with the Chiefs that he’ll be needed to step up.

Injury list keeps growing

This season has not been kind to former Eagles around the league, and Zach Ertz was the latest to be knocked out of a game, suffering a concussion in the Commanders one-point win over the Saints. Linebacker Christian Ellis was another one, leaving the Patriots-Cardinals game with a head injury.

Several Philly alumni have seen their season end early due to injuries landing them on IR — most-recently, including Jalen Reagor.

  • Jalen Reagor (Chargers)
  • DeAndre Carter (Bears)
  • Gardner Minshew (Raiders)
  • Miles Sanders (Panthers)
  • KVon Wallace (Seahawks)

Alex Singleton is Denver’s WPMOY nominee

In late-September, linebacker Alex Singleton suffered a torn ACL in the first quarter of the Broncos-Buccaneers game and still went on to play every snap. Still, despite the heroics, he was forced to undergo surgery and his season was over. Ever the bright spot, Singleton still earned the team’s nomination for the Walter Payton May of the Year Award.

Other notables

  • Several former Eagles LBs had big games on Sunday, including Kyzir White (Cardinals) with 12 total tackles and Jordan Hicks (Browns) with 9 total tackles and one pass breakup.
  • In some less-than-great linebacker news, Nicholas Morrow was released last week by the Bills.
