Winners & Losers from Rams’ nail-biting win over Bills

Rams offense was firing on all cylinders as LA moves to 7-6

The latest win by the Los Angeles Rams over the Buffalo Bills was easily the team’s most exciting game since last year’s overtime contest versus the Baltimore Ravens. Unlike last year’s game, the Rams came out on top this time 44-42.

Matthew Stafford the the LA offense was firing on all cylinders and kept pace in from of Josh Allen and the Bills. Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams each finished with two scores. Cooper Kupp and Tutu Atwell came up big in important moments as well.

This game will be one for Rams fans to remember for a long time to come. Who stood out on an individual level?

Winners

Puka Nacua, WR

It’s obvious that the Rams planned to run the offense through Nacua in this game. He was targeted 14 times, catching 12 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed five times for 16 yards and another score.

The most memorable play on the day was Nacua high pointing a tight window throw from Stafford and then making a high-degree of difficulty toe tap on the sidelines:

Matthew Stafford, QB

For the most part, Matthew Stafford has gone as the pass protection has gone so far this year. The offensive line did an excellent job of keeping the Buffalo pass rush away from Stafford in this game, and as a result Stafford was also excellent.

The veteran QB finished 23 of 30 (77% completion) for 320 yards and two touchdowns. While the box scores against the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots might look better on the surface, Stafford was sharp from start to finish in this one.

Cobie Durant, CB

Cobie Durant is making a strong argument for a starting role on the outside of this defense in 2025. He’s been the Rams best corner over the last month or so, and the coaching staff has helped him by cutting down the frequency in which he’s asked to play in the slot.

Durant was one of the most consistent and best defenders on a day where the defense gave up a plenty of production to Allen and the Bills.

Jake Hummel, MLB

One of the most important individual plays in this game was Jake Hummel’s blocked punt that Hunter Long returned for a touchdown. This score helped extend the lead against the Bills, which helped provide enough cushion to stave off Buffalo’s second half surge.

Losers

Darious Williams, CB

The last month has not gone well for veteran corner Darious Williams. He hit a low point against AJ Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles, but most teams won’t have a target of Brown’s physical profile that provides such a size advantage over Williams.

Williams seemed to be at the receiving end of a lot of successful Bills passing plays, though to his credit I don’t think any of the passing touchdowns can be blamed on him.

Quentin Lake, DB

Lake committed an ugly defensive pass interference penalty in the red zone late with Buffalo down nine. The captain was in solid position but failed to turn and find the ball, and the Bills receiver also turned back into Lake to help sell the flag.

Overall, I think Lake had a particularly tough game on a day where not much went right for the defense.

Omar Speights, MLB

Another player who had a rough day on defense was rookie MLB Omar Speights. He missed at least two tackles that I can remember and looked out of position on a handful of passing plays. This probably isn’t much to worry about. The UDFA is coming off what was easily his best game of the season last week. There will always be ups and downs with rookies.
