Giants reinforce defensive line, several other spots ahead of Week 14
The New York Giants, ravaged by injuries along the defensive line and a few other spots on their roster, made a series of roster moves on Saturday.
Those were:
Waived:
QB Tim Boyle
Reserve/Injured:
DL D.J. Davidson
Free Agent Signing from NYG Practice Squad:
DL Elijah Garcia
DL Casey Rogers
Activated from Practice Squad (Standard Elevation):
T Tyre Phillips
CB Greg Stroman
Claimed off Waivers from Seattle Seahawks:
CB Dee Williams
The Giants placed star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence on IR this week, and had placed defensive tackle Armon Watts on IR the week before. With Davidson, a third-year player, unable to play this week due to a shoulder injury, the short-handed Giants placed him on IR.
Rogers, who played collegiately at Nebraska and Oregon, is a rookie undrafted free agent who has been on the practice squad all season. Garcia played in five games for the Denver Broncos over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He was signed to the practice squad before the regular season began.
The waiving of Boyle means the Giants will go with only two quarterbacks — starter Drew Lock and backup Tommy DeVito.
The claiming of Williams on waivers was reported Friday. He can also return punts and kickoffs if necessary. The addition of Williams and the elevation of Stroman are protection at cornerback with Deonte Banks (rib) out and Cor’Dale Flott showing up on Saturday’s injury report with quad and knee injuries.
The Giants also elevated offensive lineman Tyre Phillips from the practice squad. Starting left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (quad) is out, right Evan Neal is questionable with a hip injury and Chris Hubbard, who started last week at left tackle in Eluemunor’s place, is questionable with a knee injury.
