Unfortunately, they can’t both lose
It’s time for Thursday Night Football, and tonight we’re being given an NFC North matchup to keep an eye on as the Green Bay Packers travel to take on the Detroit Lions.
These two teams have already met this season in Green Bay, with Detroit coming out on top. Our Minnesota Vikings sit between these two teams in the NFC North standings, and regardless of who wins this one there will be some benefit for Minnesota.
If Detroit wins, it pushes the Packers a little further behind the Vikings in the standings, with the Vikings still holding the head-to-head advantage over them thanks to their win in Week 4. If Green Bay wins, it means that the Vikings can put themselves into a tie (though still behind on tiebreakers) with Detroit at the top of the division and keep themselves in play for a potential #1 seed in the NFC.
Unfortunately, they can’t both lose, which would be super beneficial to the Vikings’ cause. So, we’re not really cheering for either side here. I’m not, anyway.
