The Giants now know who will start at quarterback this week
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday afternoon that veteran Drew Lock would start at quarterback against the New Orleans Saints in Week 14.
Daboll had deferred offering clarity on the Giants’ quarterback situation on the Friday following the Giants’ Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Daboll told the media when he spoke last Friday that he wasn’t yet prepared to name a starting quarterback for this week’s game.
In our poll last week, the majority of Giants fans voted that they wanted to see Tommy DeVito start against the Saints.
Daboll, however, disagreed and named Lock the starter.
Whether or not he’ll still be the starter after this week remains to be seen. Lock wasn’t exactly impressive against a depleted Dallas Cowboys defense. He had a pair of turnovers and was clearly not on the same page as his receivers.
That said, Lock wasn’t to blame for his pick-6, which was an incredible play by DeMarvion Overshown. Likewise, his chemistry issues with the receivers could be chalked up to the fact that he had just one walkthrough as the starter prior to the game. He’ll at least get practice this week to try and get on the same page as his receivers. It makes sense that the Giants would turn to Lock in an attempt to avoid being winless at home.
As bad and injured as the Giants are, the Saints are beatable. Not only is Tommy DeVito still dealing with a forearm injury, Lock is more experienced, and has better arm strength and athleticism.
The Giants have questions all over their roster, but at least they now know who will be playing quarterback for them — at least for this week.
