The Linc – “It feels like [Jalen Hurts] gets constantly disrespected”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles player doesn’t deserve to be ‘constantly disrespected,’ ex-NFL star says – NJ.com

Former Jets wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson came to Jalen Hurts’ defense this week, saying the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is one of the most “disrespected” players in the league. Johnson said Hurts doesn’t get enough credit for the eight-game win streak the Eagles are riding. “He doesn’t get respect. It feels like he gets constantly disrespected,” Johnson said on FS1’s Speak. “… Let’s start off by saying the guy as a full-time starter has gone to the playoffs every single year. He’s gotten to the Super Bowl, he finished second in the MVP voting, and they cashed him out a year ago and told him ‘You’re our guy moving forward.’”

Jalen Hurts mastering a unique role as Eagles keep winning – NBCSP

Since Week 5, when the Eagles returned from their bye and began this streak, Hurts has completed 69 percent of his passes, thrown 10 touchdowns to one interception and rushed for 10 touchdowns, and his 114.1 passer rating during that span is 4th-highest in the league. And that’s averaging 15 completions, 21 ½ pass attempts and 196 yards per game. Game manager? Sure. But that’s not a bad thing. “I just think it’s a term,” Hurts said. “Everybody can be called that depending on the day, but the reality is, everyone that plays a position is asked to manage a game to an extent. So it’s the quarterback’s job to go out there and do what he’s asked to do: Execute, play clean football and initiate the plays that are called.” And Hurts has been doing that. The last quarterback to win eight straight starts without throwing 30 passes in any of those games? Ironically, it was Lamar Jackson in the middle eight games of a 10-game winning streak in 2019.

Eagles-Ravens Film Review: The offense did enough – BGN

I’m posting every one of these throws all season long because I enjoy them so much. I thought this was one of Hurts’ best games throwing over the middle of the field, and he also threw the ball well from under center. We have seen Hurts make significant improvements this year in specific areas he struggled with last year. It’s a good reminder that when judging players for not doing something well, it can be hard to separate the player from the coaching staff. This coaching staff has done a good job improving Hurts as a quarterback. This is another fantastic throw over the middle of the field.

On the Road With Jalen Hurts, Who Requires a Microwave in His Hotel Room – GQ

I would love to experience the team flight after a big road win. Can you put into words what that vibe is like? “Yeah, the plane environment—[chuckles]—is eclectic. Everyone is processing what happened in their own way, that’s what makes it special. That’s always fun. You may have a gang of teammates watching the film together, you may have a gang of teammates talking about the game, you may have a gang of teammates joking and enjoying themselves. It’s a great environment, for sure.” Do you immediately pull up the film, or do you let it breathe? “No, I watch the film. Again, I think about the routine. There’s always an eagerness to see what I could have done better. I even have the same routine for home games. I go down to my office, watch the game, and be very critical of myself. Nothing changes on the plane. I think watching film on the plane, as a quarterback, you get the opportunity to immediately talk to your teammates about what you saw and get everyone’s opinions. I get the opportunity to talk to my coaches, as well, about areas of improvement. It’s a fun process! Honestly, it’s an underrated thing when it comes to quarterbacking: learning from the game and moving on to the next opponent.”

Film review: Hidden special teams yards helped the Eagles beat the Ravens – PhillyVoice

In their win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles made four plays on special teams that helped contribute to the win. Let’s look at all four, in chronological order.

One goal for each NFL team for the rest of the 2024 season – PFF

Philadelphia Eagles: Win the Super Bowl. Much like the Lions, it’s hard to find a true weak point on the Eagles right now. After all, Philadelphia is 10-2 and ranks in the top six in both offensive and defensive EPA per play. Plus, the Eagles have already attained wins over the Ravens, Commanders and Packers. The team holds a 29% chance of winning the NFC, and now the duty of overcoming last year’s late-season collapse and playoff disaster falls squarely on the shoulders of head coach Nick Sirianni. There appears to be no hindrance to this team at least reaching the NFC Championship, but bigger aspirations are certainly on the table with a squad this good.

Best NFL players at 102 different skills: Top QBs, WRs, CBs – ESPN+

Fastest in-phase runner: Quinyon Mitchell, Eagles. The rookie ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the combine this past spring, and that speed translates to the field when he gets on the hip of wide receivers. Mitchell puts the straps down.

Spadaro: Sheldon Brown reacts to Cooper DeJean’s ‘perfect tackle’ – PE.com

The tackle stirred memories of the lick former Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown laid on New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush in a playoff game during the 2006 season, and Brown – the Eagles’ Honorary Captain on Sunday when the Eagles host the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field – was very aware of DeJean’s big moment. “There was somebody on ‘Good Morning Football’ (on NFL Network) replayed it – they showed Cooper’s hit and then they played mine and they apologized to Reggie (Bush, on the show), and he said, ‘What did I do this morning to deserve this?’ I caught a little bit of that. It was tremendous. “It’s just toughness. It’s just a willingness to go out there and put your body on the line and be physical, sacrifice injury for the sake of the team, and play winning ball. It was a perfect tackle.”

Which scout-teamer deserves attention? Eagles offer intel, from Jalyx Hunt’s behind-the-scenes improvement to Danny Gray’s ‘amazing’ practices – PHLY

Darius Slay: “Oh man, I ain’t gonna lie: Danny (Gray). Danny Gray, man. A lot of guys do a great job, man, but I told Danny the first week, two weeks he got here, just watching him practice, I got a lot of respect for Danny because he don’t take no plays off — run plays, block plays. Danny has been amazing. Danny Gray has got me a lot better, more locked in. I always be locked in. He helped me a lot to get ready.” Reed Blankenship: “Damn, there’s been a lot. I’d say Danny Gray. He plays if a team has a speed guy or anybody who has jets, he’s the guy. Man, he’s faster than what you’d think when you go against him. I just feel he’s a very athletic guy who makes plays all over the field. Shout out to him. And he’ll let you know when he makes a play. He’s just one of those guys that I feel is making everyone better.”

Big Dom Was Apparently Approached for a Hollywood Movie, for a Lot of Money – Crossing Broad

Sign me up for a Big Dom movie. Give me that over another Avengers spin-off. Apparently Hollywood came calling and offered Dom some big money to do a movie on his life, according to Adam Schefter.

Panthers vs. Buccaneers game review: We’ve seen this one before – Cat Scratch Reader

Bryce Young – again. Those of you who have been around awhile will remember I was one of the biggest supporters of Young in the draft process. He was my number one guy all along and I was thrilled when it was clear the Panthers front office agreed with me. I defended him through his rookie season and throughout the offseason. But after the first two weeks of this season, I was done. I was certain he didn’t have “it”. Yet, here we are. Once again, I have started believing in him, although less than I did prior to watching his first 17 NFL starts. Young has added another impressive showing to his string of above average performances and the jury is once again deliberating on whether Young might just be “the guy”. 4 big time throws, 0 turnover worthy throws on 46 attempts, an average depth of target of 10.4 yards, a 79.2 PFF passing grade, only a 4.2 pressure to sack % and leading 2 separate drives that both should have been “game winning” – however you feel about him, Young has been playing winning football.

NFL Power Rankings Week 14: Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders seem to be back on track – Hogs Haven

The Washington Commanders lost their last three games before taking care of business against the Tennessee Titans. They were the #2 seed in NFC a month ago, but losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys saw them tumble to the 7th seed. A loss to the Titans on Sunday w=could have put them into a spiral with two weeks to figure out what the hell happen to their magical season that started at 7-2. That darker timeline didn’t happen. Instead they jumped out to a 28-0 lead, and finished Tennessee off in a 42-19 blowout.

Brian Daboll, Mike McCarthy among NFL coaches with most to prove over rest of 2024 season – NFL.com

KLIFF KINGSBURY: The Commanders offensive coordinator has worked wonders with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, and he is likely to be a head coaching candidate next offseason, particularly for the Chicago Bears, whose Caleb Williams worked with Kingsbury while at USC. But Kingsbury is again being dogged by questions about whether opponents catch up to his offense by the second half of the season. Entering Week 13, the Commanders and Daniels had faded. Daniels’ completion percentage in Weeks 8-12 (61%) dropped by 15 full percentage points from what it had been in Weeks 1-7 (76%), while his total touchdowns (seven) were down (from 10 in the first seven games), along with his rushing output (184 yards, from 372). Offense wasn’t a problem Sunday against the Titans, when the Commanders rolled up 42 points and a season-high 267 rushing yards. Kingsbury is 19-46 in November or later as either offensive coordinator or head coach in the NFL and college since 2013. In the NFL, his offenses have averaged nearly five fewer points and 42 fewer yards in games played in November or later (not including the Week 13 win over the Titans) compared to games played in September and October. The pasting of the Titans is a start, but with the Commanders still battling for a playoff spot and four NFC opponents on the upcoming schedule following their Week 14 bye, Kingsbury has a spotlight to show that his offense can adjust enough to keep opponents off balance, as they were when Daniels was lighting up the league earlier this season.

Dak Prescott believes Mike McCarthy deserves another chance with Cowboys ‘on his terms’ – Blogging The Boys

We can say right now that you would be hard pressed to find anyone associated with the Dallas Cowboys who would say that they want someone other than Mike McCarthy to be the head coach in 2025. Advocating for him can be a nice thing, but it does fall into the literalness of “what else do you expect them to say?” type of thing. Now that we have established this, it is certainly worth noting that Dak Prescott sat down with Yahoo Sports and publicly endorsed Mike McCarthy as the head coach of the Cowboys.

Success of ex-Giants deepens misery for New York, and GM Joe Schoen – Big Blue View

RB Saquon Barkley. Week after week, Barkley is embarrassing the Giants. He leads the league in rushing yards with a career-high 1,499 after just 12 games. Barkley is on pace for 2,123 rushing yards, which would break the NFL single-season record of 2,105 set in a 16-game season by Eric Dickerson in 1984. Barkley is averaging 124.9 rushing yards per game, best in the NFL. Each week he seems to do something spectacular. It is important to acknowledge that Barkley was not going to do the kinds of things with the Giants this season that he is doing with the Eagles. In 14 games last season, he had 247 carries. In 12 games this year, he has 246.

The Falcons have a Kirk Cousins problem – SB Nation

Just one month ago, the Atlanta Falcons looked to be sailing to their first NFC South title since reaching the Super Bowl in 2016. They were sitting atop the division at 6-3, two games ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and virtually three games up with the head-to-head tiebreaker. These are the Atlanta Falcons. What did you think was going to happen? What was once a comfortable lead in a mediocre (at best) division has dramatically evaporated thanks to three straight losses, the latest of which was a 17-13 home defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. By far the most concerning development has been the detrimental play of quarterback Kirk Cousins, who gifted the Chargers their only touchdown through this lollipop of a pick-six to rookie Tarheeb Still.
