Will it be Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock against the Saints?
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll was non-committal Thursday night regarding whether Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock would be at quarterback for the Giants when they return to action Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.
Daboll did say that DeVito, who missed Thursday’s 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys with a right (throwing) forearm injury would “probably” be ready to play by then.
Daboll said DeVito had a “pretty swollen arm” but that it wasn’t a significant injury that should keep him out long-term.
He said the Giants knew Wednesday that Devito “probably wouldn’t be able” to play against Dallas.
DeVito said “structurally everything’s good” with his arm. He just didn’t have time to be ready due to the short week, and that he thought he would have been able to play if the game had been on Sunday.
So, who starts in Week 14 at MetLife Stadium?
“We just got done playing here,” Daboll said. “We have a few days here. We’ll go back and watch this game.
“Thought Drew did some good stuff and then two big turnovers … can’t have those turnovers. We’ve gotta take care of the ball. Take care of the ball is important. But, did some nice things.”
Lock completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards and ran four 57 yards and a touchdown on four carries. He did lead the Giants to 20 points, two touchdowns and two field goals. The Giants scored just 7 points with DeVito at quarterback Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Lock said he had “nothing but fun” in his first start as a Giant.
“You’re upset when you lose, but nothing but fun. You love football. You love being able to come out here and play on Thanksgiving,” Lock said. “You want to win. Upset we didn’t. There were a couple of things we could have done better. But the last 24 hours, I won’t forget it. Awesome opportunity to come out here and play. I wish we could have got it done. But I was very excited to be told I was playing and come out here to try to get a win.”
Did he think he did enough to continue starting?
”You know, I’m not thinking about that right now. I’m going to leave here, get on the plane and watch tape to see what I could have done better. Learn from it. Grow,” Lock said. “If the opportunity comes again, then be ready to play and play better than we did today.”
